But unlike previous Nexus handsets, the HTC-made Marlin and Sailfish are expected to be faster than same year Android flagships. Moreover, both devices are tipped to feature the same internal configuration, meaning that the smaller phone won’t be inferior when it comes to overall performance.

While the SD 821 is said to be a higher version of the current-gen Snapdragon 820 processor, there are improvements in its architecture. It has a faster Kyro CPU, clocked at 2.4 GHz versus the SD 820's 2.2 GHz. In addition, there are also improvements and tweaks on the processes for the SoC, making the SD 821 more energy-efficient and deliver faster and better performance.

I like the build, if that's a legit picture. Looks a lot more comfortable to hold than my N6.

Hope they don't pull a nexus 6 and be too expensive

And I'm hearing rumors of the Note 7 possibly having the 820 and 4GB of RAM with a price tag upwards of $850-900. So, looks like the HTC Nexus will be my next phone.
EDIT: Although, is that bottom speakers I see? That makes me a sad panda.

I could see the smaller cheaper one having the bottom speakers, I highly doubt/would be really surprised if the 6P equivalent didn't have BOOM Sound being an HTC phone and all.
I can not, and will not, go back, after 2 generations of stereo front facing speakers.

The 6P has been my first phone with front facing, and I refuse to go back to bottom.

What are the choices if not the Nexus? Seems like HTC is all about front speakers in their phones, so I agree it would be odd not to see it in the 6P equivalent at least.
I'll also be a little sad if it lacks wireless charging, but at least USB-C is becoming universal enough that there's a selection of charging docks/cradles that shouldn't be obsolete in 2 years.
Still, if it lacks front speakers and wireless charging, it's practically a OnePlus 3.

My favorite phone was my HTC one m7. Screen broke so I had to get a new one but that dual front facing was amazing.

Another update today and it appears, at least at first, that the Nexus will also be getting some exclusive software this go around.
Meet the new Nexus Launcher, with no more App Drawer icon/button. More details here
Also, more confirmation they will both use the new 821. The Note 7 was rumored to possibly use it as well but did not.

Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 821 processor this morning (July 11th), and with it there has been growing speculation about just which phones will be among the first to feature the new alleged king of the chipset hill. Based on information from multiple and reliable sources, we believe it is extremely likely both of Google's upcoming Nexus phones, Sailfish and Marlin, will be using the Snapdragon 821.

Today it's become clear that a new set of Nexus devices are well on their way from Google to the hands of the public. Word comes from Droid Life where they've gotten word that October 4th could be "the launch date" of these new devices.

As I indicated in a different thread, I am completely way behind on Android phone technology.
What is the difference between Google Nexus 6P (assuming this is the latest phone) and HTC Google Nexus phone?
Does Google Nexus 6P get faster software updates since it is a Google exclusive?

+1
I wish I could try both of the sizes prior to buying them, though. The N6 is just far too large and I want a much smaller phone, yet I'm worried going from a 5.9" screen to 5" screen is going to feel like the new smaller Nexus is going to feel like this:

Each year a couple new phones come out but they don't stick with the same manufacturer. 3 years ago it was LG, then Motorola then whoever did the 6p and 5x. This fall they've tagged HTC as their builder. All Nexus phones get software updates every couple weeks straight from Google.
Make sense? Google doesn't have their own factory.

Yes, it does. Confusing though for an iPhone user as their is only one manufacturer.

Oh that's cool. I like the launcher too. I wonder if the Nexus 5x will be able to do that. If not I may be getting a new phone.

That seems super cool, completely cutting out a step to do the most common thing on a phone, check notifications.
Not like unlocking with the sensor now and pulling down the tray is hard or time consuming or anything, but making it all in one step/gesture is something I would use and love.
I like the direction of giving Nexus phones some software enhancements over other phones too, smart of Google.

Any word on price points for the new phones and when they will drop the price on the 6p?
Posted on 8/23/16 at 8:53 pm to uno student
Rumored prices leaked a few days ago
$599
$449
And the 6P has been on sale at just about every major retailer here recently for pretty cheap. Just keep an eye out they are easy to find on sale.

Some of that stuff you currently can do with alternate launchers. I know with Nova you can remove the app drawer button and use gestures to open it instead.
