Fairhope vs Covington

So I have job offers in both. Both are excellent career opportunities, so it really comes down to where we want to live. The wife and I are torn right now trying to weigh the pro's and con's (housing market, location, distance from family, etc etc..).
Since the OT is always chock-full of excellent advice, I was hoping to gain some extra perspectives and opinions.

Covington is by far the nicest city in Louisiana fwiw.

Having experience with both. They're about as close to the same town/city as you can get...
Daphne/Fairhope :: Covington/Mandeville
Really would be personal preference.

Fairhope is a funky little town, kind of artsy/Bohemian, on the bay, lots of stuff to do in the area, in some ways it's very much like the north shore, I could see living in either place, for me I'd choose Covington only because it's in LA, but Fairhpe is a nice place, surrounded by Gumps though

Go to Fairhope.
The rape, murder, and rape is out of control in Covington.

As already posted, both are the same type of town and both within 30-45 minutes of a larger city.
If you like New Orleans, pick Covington, if you like the beach, pick Fairhope.

Fairhope is much better than Covington.
Plus you will be close to the beach if that's your kind of thing

If you have family in Louisiana you enjoy visiting regularly and like being able to drive to New Orleans for a night out, go Covington.
If you like being 30 minutes from the beach and don't care about New Orleans restaurants and night life, go Fairhope.

Covington has come a long way in the last 2 years. The opening of the Southern Hotel has completely revitalized Downtown- Now you can just walk downtown and have your pick of bars and restaurants, galleries and shopping. A lot of influx from the Pacific Northwest as well with Globalstar Communications as well as a few other Fortune 500 companies. Even friends that visit from NYC are impressed by its charm- they say it's kind of like the Hamptons. ( I laughed at that too- a little premature but I can see where they're going )

Fairhope is okay. Covington has far more going on in and around it than Fairhope. Plus, you don't have to deal with God damn gumps and seeing those fricking stickers all over the place or listen to those dumbfrick accents.
I'm from the Northshore and have lived in Covington, so I'm naturally gonna pick that. Hard to say, but spend a little time in each and make your decision.

Fairhope is awful. It isn't safe. The restaurants are awful, especially Master Joe's. The bay isn't very pretty, even at sunset. Being two hours from NOLA and one hour from the beach is a huge pain in the arse.
Stay away and make sure you tell your friends how awful it is.
