Baseball isn't that expensive, either
it is when you get into matching hologrammed bat bags, matching bats, matching eye black, shirts for all the moms, etc.

basketball will be king of poor neighborhoods. you need to lay 60 feet of concrete or asphalt and put up one backboard with a chain net. you can play it professionally all over the globe.

SMH at white women. Their tentacles have ruined everything.

these people really don't know what they're talking about. they are making it sound like tons of black kids are lining up to play baseball. that's a crock of crap. the black kids aau basketball coaches DON'T LET THEM PLAY BASEBALL. their football coaches don't like it either.
there is NO SYSTEM out to get these kids. I know dozens of examples where their "handlers" kept them away from playing even when they clearly wanted to. most coaches don't give a damn what color you are; if you can hit a curve ball, if you can play you ARE IN.
I tire of "manufactured" racism. it is getting in the way of race relations in this country.

I didn't realize only black people were poor.

I'm no expert but my impression is considering the structure in a country like DR really makes the opposite point.
Just like in soccer in South America, I imagine there's an immense amount of scouting and then "speculation" on talented young players.
I'm sure "third party" agents are picking them out at pretty young ages for better training to make a huge profits on those that make it to the pros.

they've been trying for like 10 years to get black kids excited in baseball
i guess they finally found an angle to get a little more television time
They have backed off on the incessant bitching each spring about being "underrepresented" which is only true if you exclude Latin black guys (Edgar Renteria did not count as a black guy in their stats).
Black people are only 13 % of the US population. However, adding in the Latin America population to the denomination for a more accurate measure and they are less than 10% of the population baseball pulls from. 10% of a 25 man roster is only 2.5. If the average is only 2.5 per team then NOT having teams with zero American blacks would be a statistical anomaly.
Assuming blacks just naturally ought to be over-represented (which is the only way to make the numbers look "racist") is on the face of it racist.

Jumping from square A to square C and assuming square B is racism every time is not "telling the truth"

ESPN is really awful
I do think they are really spineless in challenging what you folks around here like to call the SJW's when there really is legitimate ground to. They are scared to death of them. And most of the folks left there do seem to bend over backward to say things to get pats on the back from that same group.

MLB is actually pretty representative of the U.S.'s population.

Did anyone point out yet that this article isnt on the main ESPN website? Its on "the undefeated" which is an African American focused subsite which the site is linked WAY down the front page of ESPN and isnt even a headlined story?
Seems like someone went way out of the way to get offended which who is worse? the SJW or the warrior calling for social justice against the SJW

Stricter NCAA academic standards set to begin in the fall could further erode the meager percentage of black college baseball players. C.J. Stewart, a former minor-league player who runs the L.E.A.D. Academy in Atlanta for inner-city youth and high school baseball players, said higher admission standards and a loss of scholarships for poor academic progress ratings (APR) could drop the percentage of African-American players in Division I baseball to 1 percent within five years.

“It’s not even intentional, but it’s institutionalized racism. It’s crazy to ask a college coach to recruit a black kid with new requirements for APR. You lose scholarships if kids don’t perform in the classroom.

I remember when Prop 48 came out and everyone went batshite about the racism.
Apparently, college was just a minor-league and nobody really needed a H.S. diploma.

Yeah MLB is full of all those uber rich Cubans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans etc.
And many of them are black and from those poor countries!
LMMFAO
I'm so tired of the poor me black excuses.
