Some friends were having this discussion the other day and they had so many wide ranging opinions. I had him top 2. Probably behind bert jones but really hard to compare those 2. No other qb has every won national qb of the year award. Also over 20 wins and only 3 losses last two seasons as starter. Didn't even play as a senior. Also played 5 or more top 10 teams on the road over those 2 seasons. Pretty impressive with only 2 years as starter IMO

1) Hodson
2) Jones
3) JR
4) Davey
5) Flynn

*Tittle should be considered, but he didn't really have the college stats so it's hard to compare him to the rest.

Hodson threw for 24 int's as a junior and senior. JR junior season he was better in every possible category. 28/8 as a junior against obviously toughest schedule in lsu history.

Different eras and different rules.

Bert Jones also had the same issues regarding rules. Bellichick called Jones the best pure passer and athlete at QB that he ever seen.

This is admittedly an inexact science. The definitive LSU QB power rankings since 1990:

Bryan Sparacino
Felipe Franks before he flipped
Ro!
Ryan11
J Rock
Downsy Matt Damon
Mett
Josh Booty
Herb Tyler
Jamie Howard
Craig Nall
Leesus
J2
Marcus Randle
Zach Lee?
Jennings
The fat kid who transferred to Moo State
The fat kid that plays TE at Ole Miss currently
Jerrard Randall
The Rivers who sucks at football
Some rich kid named Hayden
Getting hit by a bus
Andrew Hatch
Felipe Franks after he flipped

He's top 3, along with Bert Jones and Tommy Hodson.

I'm sure YA Title was awesome, but he's almost impossible to rank due to how long ago he played and how different the game was.

He's the best and anyone who disagrees is either old, retarded, and/or racist

Redundant.

Jones
JaMarcus
Hodson
Davey
Tyler

Here's an interesting comparison between Hodson and Herb Tyler. Hodson, of course, threw for more yards but he had nearly twice as many attempts. Tyler had a better completion percentage (60.6 to 58.0), yards.attempt (8.2 to 7.8), and QB rating (141.3 to 136.3). He also had a better TD/INT ratio (40/24 to 69/41) and was a far better runner (291-778-23 to 144--177-2). You could make a pretty good case that Tyler was better than Hodson.

Is that a List of three qb's whose best season wasn't as good as Russell's?

Russell was dumb as shite and he cost LSU the 06 Florida game when he fumbled on the freaking 1 yd line. If JR is considered the best LSU QB ever then LSU has had a LOOOONG line of below average QBs.

How many NFL quality receivers were catching Hodson's passes?

Jimbo only called him the smartest qb he has been around by ok yeah he's dumb. Dude made least amount of mistakes and threw balls downfield taking more chances than any qb in recent lsu history
