If you were offered an excellent job opportunity but you could not relocate to its location, what is the max distance/time you'd be willing to commute?

Lafayette to Metarie too far?

Really depends on the job. 1-2 hours for something really spectacular (talking like dream job).

Hell, driving fifteen minutes to LSU's campus felt like too much of a chore most days. Then again, I got paid shite and worked a job that I hated so maybe that had more to do with it.

Lafayette to Metairie? That's a hell of a daily haul man. At w minimum its 2.5 hours on hwy 90. If you go 10 it's less miles but more traffic because of BR. No way I'd want to make that drive daily

It takes me about 30-45 minutes to get home. I like the drive because it gives me a chance to unwind before I get home to the wife and kids

You'd be giving up 4-5 hours/day on the road....quality of life > money IMO.

Distance isn't really the issue with this commute. It's the fact that you are going to travel across multiple choke points if you take I-10: Atchafalaya bridge, Baton Rouge MS River Bridge, and the Bonnet Carre Spill Way.

Each spot can add 20-30 minutes to a drive due to typical traffic or an accident. If you keep off of I-10 and take Hwy 90 most of the way, you still have problems with Bonnet Carre and 310.

The equation is supposed to be: Increase in salary - (increase in hours commuting × 1/2 hourly wage)

I drove 100 miles one way (200 round trip) for 9 months while we tried to sell our house in a shitty market after I took a job in BR.

Worst time of my adult life easy. Took about 1:45-2:00 hours each way with traffic. I was miserable.

The most I would ever commit to without some huge incentives would be a 1 hour each way.

They'd have to give me at least $150 per night so I can book an Extended Stay place in Metairie so I can stay over multiple times out of the week. Most of the time, I would probably just stay there Monday through Friday and go home on the weekends.

I have about a 75 mile commute each day, one way. Comes about to about an hour without traffic here in Houston. Only thing that makes it doable is the company vehicle.
