Melancon is so far up the arse of the commercial fishing lobby its sad. Sadly there is absolutely no way that Melancon & Edwards go against the commercial sector because they know their money base is commercial fishing not recreational fishing. The recreational fishing is largely made up of Republicans as it is.

How about charging for offshore landing permits?
The emails need to be more than just berating him for being a hack and a dumbass. You can do that, but also point out that there are ways to offset the costs.

How about using the money that was created from license sales that was earmarked for red snapper research to manage the fishery.
The fishery is outstanding, it doesn't need any real management at this point.

Which is a great idea moving forward, but that money was stolen by the last administration, just like the rigs to reef money. Once it gets taken, getting the legislature's grubby paws off of it is a losing battle.

Creating a new source of revenue to fund something that is supposed to be funded from dedicated sources and expecting a different outcome is probably not the best idea.
