you mean teams that had no staying power...all products of a weak Eastern conference...there is a reason that the Eastern conference won more of the titles in the Jordan era, and the Western conference has won more of the titles post-Jordan...

Using seasons played makes absolutely no sense. Age is the numbrr 1 issue that drives retirement and the end of a career. So using that as a checkpoint makes the most sense. Also, using LeBrons seasons at the age of 18-20 against him is nonsense. Those years are development years just like MJs college years were.

Ability to play the game is the #1 issue that drives retirement. That is often caused by age but it is often other things as well. Lots of 25 year olds are out of the NBA cause they aren't good enough.

If Jordan came out in 1982 instead of 84 who is to say he wouldn't have been a late first rounder and gone to the Lakers or Celtics and won 2 more as a role player? It's kind of insane how hard people try in this debate

Using NBA seasons, playing against NBA players, is the best checkpoint.

you probably count Ichiro's hits in Japan too

So illogical. So LeBron should be punished for playing in the NBA as the #1 pick at 18 years old?

Completely and utterly disagree. You're essentially punishing Lebron for being drafted at 18 years old with that reasoning. Age is undoubtedly the best measure.

I don't care what anyone says numbers-wise, no other player in history has been a legitimate shot blocker, legitimate stealer, legitimate threat from beyond the arc, legitimate post player, legitimate point guard, legitimate lane driver, and legitimate leader, all together, better than LeBron. There are a handful in the discussion for even being able to claim they are all of those things. Lebron is one of the best in history or in the current NBA in each of those things. He is better than Jordan, better than Magic, better Bird, as an overall player just in what he can do on the court. Add to that the fact that he has carried the Cavs in the past on his back to the Finals against one of the great dynasties under one of the great coaches in history (Pop's Spurs), and he led the Heat with a broken down Wade and role-playing Bosh, his performances in the Playoffs, regular season and career prove definitively that he is the best player in history. Period. End of story. And this last championship solidifies it.

Jordan, stats wise, was the better defender. I was shocked to look at the amount of blocks he had in his career. Google Lebron vs MJ stats and there's a site that compiles all the data. It's interesting because they are all really close. I'd link but I'm on my phone and having trouble copy and pasting.

They are both elite defenders, but Bron is better. MJ playing along side the best defender in NBA history took some pressure off him defensively which helps tremendously. LeBron being the only elite defender on his team takes a toll on him by the 4th qtr IMHO. I think Cleveland needs to go out and get a elite defender to help save LeBrons legs now that he is getting older

Lebron is definitely the better defender. The stats just still go to Jordan, even though Lebron has 2 years to match Jordan. About the only defensive statistical category Lebron currently has the edge over MJ is blocks. I'm still dumbfounded at how many blocks MJ had, especially in that era.

But all you have to do is watch Lebron on defense to see how great he is. It truly is remarkable what he can do on both ends of the floor.

Lol, now Lebron is a better defender than MJ? Good gracious anyone saying that has to be less than 30 years old. Blocking someone's layup on a fast break like a freak doesn't make one a better defender. Keeping them from ever touching the ball does.

I'm guessing the 87' part of your handle has to be what year you were born...

Using the age logic to tell a person theyre wrong is getting out of hand. Plenty of older people would agree that Lebron is the better player/defender.

If you were starting a team right now and could pick between Lebron and MJ at 25 years old, who do you pick?

Ill take the guy that is bigger, stronger, and can play and defend 1-5

MJ is STILL the best ever...But Bron has risen on my list after this performance.... He showed a killer instinct that I never thought he had... I say he plays maybe three more years and retires... He may not win another title though.... The only thing I have against him is his flopping issues... Other than that he is def in my top 10 all-time....

Look at the numbers. They are extremely close, besides steals, and Lebron still has 2 years left until they are at equal time in the NBA. Lebron gets more blocks, MJ had more steals. The argument is valid, sorry.

LBJ seems to be penalized for pushing weak teams through to the finals. Outside of his first loss with Miami, he was carrying dead weight, which is impressive in its own right. Had Jordan done this with his lesser teams, instead of going out early, he would have some Finals losses too.

Having said that, I do realize it's relative to competition.

Agreed. But last night showed the book hasnt had its last chapter. Bron just took number 3 and Kyrie showed he is a stud. And Kyrie isnt even close to his prime yet....

I think we will see him start to get a lot more games off in the near future. Cleveland needs to take a page from the San Antonio playbook.
