Explosive talents like defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, linebacker/defensive end Arden Key (49, above) and linebacker Kendell Beckwith pushed LSU to ESPN’s No. 2 front seven.

2. LSU Tigers: DT Davon Godchaux, LB/DE Arden Key, LB Kendell Beckwith

The Tigers switch to a 3-4 defense, allowing Key to stand up and rush off the edge at outside linebacker, and Godchaux will create havoc inside. Expect the sack total (34) to jump in a heavier attack scheme.

Oh if we could only add the mythical T. Valentine...

Not sure how we made top 5 in front 7 but not defensive backs did not. I would think DBs would be our highest ranked position group. OL could have also made the list before defensive front 7 IMO.

Does this factor in the coaches at all? Or is it off of pure talent?

Lsu football doesn't respond well to high expectations. Prepare yourself.

And doesn't even mention Neal. I think this cat will have a monster year!

I'm curious if we'll run a true 3-4 in the 1st year of Aranda

Our DL this year is gonna be sick. Which will in turn make our CB look even better.

I'm hoping our LB core steps up and makes it easier for the secondary.

We're gonna take our best guys. Match them up against their worst guys, and do that over and over and over again.

We shite the bed last year because we had no depth. We lost potential rotation guys in Bain, Lmfao and Valentine. Am I missing someone else?

This is just factually incorrect. LSU has consistently performed at or better than pre-season expectations.

The only years where LSU has finished 10 or more spots worse than preseason were 2008 and 2012 (aka years following appearances in BCSCG where preseason rankings would have been inflated).

AP Poll Start and Finish:
2005 - #5, #6
2006 - #8, #3
2007 - #2, #1
2008 - #7, Unranked
2009 - #11, #17
2010 - #21, #8
2011 - #4, #2
2012 - #3, #14
2013 - #13, #14
2014 - #13, #22
2015 - #14, #16

LSU has occasionally ended up with higher expectations around mid-season and then failed to meet those new mid-season expectations, but the preseason national expectations for LSU have been pretty spot-on.
