Outboard motor cost?

I thought that I posted this thread this morning, but apparently not.
In response to my "Xpress boat cost" thread, I want to know how much outboard motors cost. Many people posted that the 115 is not enough, just as many said it would be fine. What I cannot find is what the upcharge or retail cost of different motors cost. I can find what MSRP of motors are, but thats nearly useless. Believe me, I tried Google.
For example. I can afford the 115 SHO. I have no idea if I can afford the 150SHO, but maybe the F150 or a Suzuki 150. I know that any boat dealer will have this info, but that seems like a great way to get screwed.
Are there any dealers on here that can give any insight on what different motors cost, maybe even different brands? I can post my email if someone would rather that, but I dont have a burner email, so let me know and I will post it then.

Remember, not all dealers carry all brands of motors

True. I am not concerned with service though. My FIL repairs small engines and is great with boat motors.
I can find a dealer somewhere in LA that sells the motor I can afford on a decent priced hull.

Doesn't cajun have the best prices on outboards in the state? They are a Yamaha dealer, I would go talk to them.
Eta: they list prices on their website. LINK

A boat motor mechanic and a small engine guy are not one in the same.
Find out who sells them in a 500mile range call and get prices over the phone. If they won't give you info over the phone they lost your business.

He worked at a boat shop for 20+ years working on outboards. He retired and repairs weedeaters and lawnmowers on weekends now. I'm pretty sure he can change the oil on a boat motor for me.
Dave, those are all msrp. I was hoping to find retail prices. Thanks though.

I'm still pretty sure they are one of the cheapest places to buy. That's the first person I would go talk to, in person if you have to. I wouldn't imagine many places want to talk prices on the phone.

I spoke with Toby on Wednesday. He had no hulls that I wanted, but sent me to a place up the road. I'll keep them in mind if I need a repower or along those lines.
Guess I should add, Toby works at Cajun.

A good easy rule of thumb for an estimate after taxes is $100 per hp installed.
Obviously that's going to vary, but in general a 150 is going to run you $3500ish more than a 115 installed.
Unless you fish by yourself most of the time and rarely bring others, you generally want as close to mad hp on a boat as you can go. If the specs are 115-150 you will be kicking yourself and pissed with a 115 every time you fish, I can't tell you the amount of people I've met that have a 115 that wish they had a 150. Given that, unless you have 3-4 people on the boat it really doesn't usually matter.

Truth. I've never heard anyone say they wished they had a smaller motor.

Does he carry small outboards, like a 40hp?

Do yourself a favor and check with Breaux & Daigle in Pierre Part. The AlumaCrafts are great boats, and they have the best prices on Yamaha's period! I own an Xpress 18, and have been pleased, but am more impressed with the AlumaCraft.

Yes. I was calling about a 25hp.

When I repowered one of my boats I bought my evinrude etec from Bluedot Marine in chalmette. They had the best price on rigging & evinrude etec out of the places I checked.
I did price Mercury and yamaha in similar Hp.
Cajun outboards had the best price on Mercury outboards.
Breaux & Daigle the best price on Yamaha's.

Wow. They have some great prices of 1756 CC boats. I'm about 2 years out, but looks like they're going to be hard to beat. Thanks for posting that.

Bump. I talked to the sales manager at Boats Unlimited the other day and something I forgot to ask. I asked if the warranty on the motor was 5 year. He said no, 3 year. However, they will be running a special starting in July that I should wait for. What kind of special could he be talking about?
A discount/rebate program or additional warranty on Yamaha outboards?
