But yes please, next time can they place his tail behind the gurney handles where there's no chance of it getting run over?

Same thing I was thinking. I've heard stories from OR nurses of patient intestinines getting tangled up in the wheels. Could be an urban myth used to scare OR crews into being careful. Seeing his tail immediately brought this to mind.

These people are reactionary and dont have the ability to think or feel. This is a great chance to see how a rare form of cancer reacts but "its an animal" rabble rabble. You can tell who has no time for reason

I'd like you to explain to me why and how this is a waste?

The only way it isn't a waste is if we are learning something about treating cancer in people. Otherwise the entire existence of cancer treatment facilities for animals is a waste.

This is why poor people vote for universal health care. Don't tell me my grandma can't get treatment when you're giving it to a cat.

But this is an opportunity to find out how a sarcoma is going to react to this type of radiation.

Then go to school or donate money and help people instead of bitching on a chat board. Very rarely to radiation oncologist treat people on weekends they get 5 days take 2 off most humans. They entire rad onc team will learn a great deal from this experiencehave as how the tumor reacts how to calculate treatment dosages etc. I assure the physicists running the show is more than happy to donate his time. my neighbor is an ob/gyn and when the chimpanzee the zoo here went into early labor neonatologist from UTMC in Knoxville were involved using state of the art equipment and delivery techniques. Not a single uninsured pregnant woman was turned away that day either.....

Has your grandma actually been diagnosed with cancer and refused treatment? Or you just making up stuff to try and support a losing argument?

The truth is while it makes getting treatment more difficult, lack of insurance doesn't mean you can't get treated. Most hospitals have "charity care" and "indigent care" treatment. Many hospitals are to required to provide treatment under the Hill-Burton Hospital Program.

To state that old dying cancer ridden grandmas are being refused treatment in favor of Mike the Tiger is ridiculous. And completely false. The fact is, LSU has financial resources and has every right to use them however they see fit. To disallow them to get treatment for their mascot, because you have poors in your family? That thinking is what's wrong with this country.

I assume this is an attempt to troll, but will take the bait to make a point.

Short answer: the fact that there are long lines all over the world is the fault of those countries, not a tiger in Baton Rouge.

Long answer:
The reason for the "long lines" is that outside of the US, with the exception of Germany, healthcare is nationalized (or socialized) and given how expensive these machines are, they essentially don't fit into their budget, or have not been shown to be more cost-effective than traditional radiation machines because the cost of treating the increased side effects are cheaper than buying one of these machines.

They have limited penetration in the EU (about 18 per this website) and are mostly limited to private hospitals:
LINK /

The point is, access to care around the world is restricted mainly by budgetary concerns of the government. This "animal" is fortunate that access is down the street and not a plane ride away.

But to be brutally honest, I would assume that someone at Mary Bird Perkins sees that all of this brings marketing and public relations value to them as well, so that they can pull more business from other regional hospitals or make people feel like they don't have to go to MD Anderson (you know, the "hospital" which makes enough money off of cancer to advertise during the super bowl).

So the point is, access to and cost of healthcare are proportional and what is the best system is now a political issue. This is not and should not be part of that debate. Depending on your point of view, the fact that healthcare is more expensive but also more accessible by and large here is a positive or negative. The fact that there are long lines all over the world is the fault of the individual governments of those countries, not a tiger in Baton Rouge.

Would someone forward these photos to PETA to show those idiots that this mascot gets care second to none.

PETA doesn't think like you do. They will insist Mike VI got cancer from living in the cage.
their position is that he was removed from his environment and put in a cage.

So if I wanted to use my personal money, that I earned at my job, that I already paid my taxes on, to get my animal treated for cancer, you consider that a waste?

Do you want to restrict how I can spend my hard earned money?

Who is paying for Mike's treatment? Would have been nice if instead of shelling out all of that money on him, they donated it to children's cancer treatments.

If LSU needed help paying his expenses, I'm positive the LSU alumni would foot the bill in a heart beat.

He is a beloved part of LSU, and I am for doing anything possible to give him the best care, no matter the cost.
