The Swampers.
Can't believe ZZ Top wasn't on your list though.
How bout Dire Straits when Pick Withers was the drummer?

We're both thinking the same way, I guess he meant performing acts. In that case, I have to go with Wyman, Watts and Wood, but for session work,it doesn't get better than the Swampers, any genre,it didn't matter, they could play it.

No doubt Rush was fantastic, untouchable in their Genre.
Unfortunately, when comparing acts,it has to be a popularity contest,I guess especially when you are talking about Rythm, because that is the element that draws people in.
You could really make the argument that Rush was over most peoples heads in that respect, and it would be true.It is some bad arse shite, but it didn't have the huge appeal that some other acts had, while doing more simple things. But they did what they wanted and did well.

Oakley Trucks johanson
probably my favorite
CCR is seriously underrated in this regard. They were a really tight band.

Versatility being key. Those two could play any style, any time, anywhere. Bonham is GOAT and JPJ is damn amazing in his own right.

I'm not sure if they're really considered "classic rock" because of their indie leanings, but

Jones Bonham is GOAT. Best rhythm/groove I've ever heard unless we're discounting Larry Graham/Greg Errico from Sly and the Family Stone.

It's sad that they will never get the credit they deserve but I would like to mention Nigel Olsson and Dee Murray from Elton John's 1970s band.
