ideal 300 magnum

I have been shooting 338 for a while now, but I do not have a 300 magnum cartridge. I am considering the 300 RUM, 300 Win Mag, 30-378, or taking the wild cat route. What do the 300 shooters on here like? I want this for a NM antelope rifle.
I have also thought about developing my own wildcat 300, but I have a lot to learn there. I wanted to take a 408 CheyTac case or 416 Barrett case and neck it down to a .30.

What gave me this idea was how the 300 Werewolf was developed. 500 Jeffrey necked down to .30. This allowed it to reach velocities of 3550 FPS with 240 grain SMK projectiles. Out of a .30 caliber cartridge, that is insane.
My 300 idea may top it in velocity, but it could mean a short barrel life. Still haven't come up with a name yet. Maybe 300 Cupcake, lol

You do a thread like this every couple of months. Just stop.

All that sounds like a huge PITA.
And I can't trust a man with a foot fetish.

It may be but I've got the money for it, so I want to do it eventually.

Why do you think you need something like that for an antelope?
Better caliber would be .257 wby, .257 roberts, 6.5 creedmoor, etc.
You do not need such a large caliber for antelope.

But antelope die deader, if shot with super unnecessary magnum rifles.

NM antelope rifle.

Way to much gun for antelope. I'd get an AR10 in a 6.5 creed. or .260.

If you're shooting super long distance for antelope, I get it. I own a 30-378 that I bought mostly for sheep hunting. Instead of the 174 grain bullets commonly used, I experimented until settling for a 150 grain Nosler Accubond. It's still too much rifle for sheep as it would be for speed goats, but I don't worry a bit about 600-1500 yard shots.
The only real downside is lugging that magnum length barrel through underbrush and up mountains.

Ha ha. No.
In fairness though, I've never taken a shot in a hunting situation beyond 500 yards. I just like to know that I can.
I had to pass on an extremely nice Himilayan Tahr one time because I couldn't close the distance. I promised myself that I wouldn't be in that situation again because of a lack of gun.

It's not overkill, I'm doing long range shots. And I've had professional machinists and gunsmiths tell me it's possible, but may be a little too hot. Shows what most of the frickers on this board know.

Yet you're here asking for advice.

Yep the 30-378 does excellent at extended range. Still want to take one on a elk hunt

I'm really asking for opinion, not technical advice/knowledge. Question was, based on the experience on this board, what .30 caliber rifle (magnum) have you preferred to use. I'm asking so I can weigh it in and decide instead of buying six rifles
