The Oakland Coliseum has to be replaced or renovated.

If the Raiders decide to move to Vegas it would be an easy renovation:

Phase I: Demolish Mt. Davis and everything in the outfield except the seats down the lines (and maybe those too), move the bullpens to behind the outfield fences.

Phases II and III: Renovate all the seats down each of the foul lines (pick whichever one they want first). If they want to keep a ton of foul territory, fine (the Coliseum is known for that, they need all the advantages they can get).

The Oakland Coliseum's problems are way more than it just being a multi-purpose stadium. The plumbing is shot, it has had problems with its lighting system, and the concrete in the seating area is cracking. It can be renovated, but it will not be an easy renovation. It will probably cost close to the $500million that is cost to renovate Wrigley.

It would be nice to see it renovated and restored as a baseball only park, because that is view is just awesome.

Seems like the Angels would get one here soon. 3rd or 4th oldest stadium in the game. I know it was renovated, but that was almost 20 years ago

this may happen because arte wants them in the city of los angeles. they still have a couple more years left on their lease, i think its 2019 is when it runs out, but after that could be interesting

Went to Target Field last year. Beautiful. And there is a nice transit for easy travel to game.

I agree.. And good ole Tiger stadium in Detroit might have been old but what a place to watch a game... The new place in Detroit is horrible in comparison.....

Interestingly, the field is still there. Volunteers maintain it and a small portion of the seating is still there as well.

Angel Stadium is pretty nice for how old it is. Parking is fairly easy, infrastructure in tact; definitely one of the better stadiums in the league

I've always said they should put a new stadium in Tampa and advertise in Orlando. People could plan their Disney vacations during the summer when their team is playing the Rays.
I know that if I was planning to go to Disney World during the summer, and I saw that the White Sox were playing near there on say June 11th weekend, I would try to go that week so that I could watch my team while on a family vacation.

Good concept but it would be dependent on displaced fans. A Sox fan living near Chicago can see the Sox anytime. You'd need Sox fans living too far away to make the drive on a Sunday.

Either that or make the new park a must see like Wrigley/Fenway/PNC/Camden Yards.

Mount Davis was already around by the time I became a sports fan, so I had no idea how beautiful that setting once was and could still be until I saw that picture a few years back. It really is a damn shame.

Is Oakland doing anything to get the Athletics a new stadium? Didn't they try to get a new stadium in San Jose before?

They want to build in San Jose but apparently years ago they gave the sj market to the Giants and now sf refuses to let them build there since it's their market. (I think that's correct anyway). Haven't been to the Oakland colessium but Tampa is the biggest shithole I've ever seen. It needs to go immediately. Toronto needs to do what Stl did and build a new stadium right where the Rogers centre is now because the location is great in the middle of downtown and when the roof is open its a beautiful view with the cn tower lit up at night.

How long ago did Athletics give up their territory? Seems shitty of the Giants to do that. I thought there was some land outside the stadium the mayor once offered to the Raiders for a new stadium?

Rays stadium is awful. Any talk of a new stadium there?

I really like new Busch Stadium. Atmosphere around stadium is really nice. Some have complained Ballpark Village has killed some of the older businesses off, which is debatable.

Maybe behind the scenes but the As signed a 10 year lease in 2013 and 2014, and the city had been focussing on the coliseum city project which included a new stadium for the raiders and a new stadium for the As. The project fell apart last year and that is why the raiders are about to move.

Yep, but the Giants blocked them.

Sounds like Athletics screwed themselves over when they made the agreement with Giants. I wonder how Oakland would have come up with the money to build two stadiums?

The Cell is not interesting and it's upper deck is way too steep. But there's nothing wrong with it in the sense that it's substandard. The mistake was not building it downtown

I don't know and I don't think that Oakland knew either because the funding issue is what made the coliseum city deal fall apart.

Atlanta didn't need a new stadium, but they desperately needed a new location. Moving was the only answer.

Tampa and Oakland really need new stadiums. I have been to both and I actually found Oakland to be worse.
