I know squat about vehicles, so I will probably mess this all up terminology wise, but here goes.

Brand new Sierra. 6 speed auto. When I am traveling at low speeds and then let off the accelerator, instead of a smooth coast, I get a jerking set of downshifting and what feels like engine braking? Almost feels the way a standard would if you just coasted into a stop in gear. This is not the hill assist or whatever, and it happens no matter what I do. Even in M. I can see the tach needle do some jumping right at 1,100 rpm. I do not like this one bit. My 07 Silverado coasted just fine. Is this normal for those?

I've tried bot on and off as well as holding the button in for 3 seconds to turn off grade braking. Still does it.

That's the only answer. Did it do this on your test drive?

If it's a normal thing, I'd like to know.

I just got a 16 Silverado and traded in an 08.

I have noticed my old truck seemed to shift a little smoother. But I haven't noticed any "jumping" when slowing down.

Edited to fix typo.

Haven't? The jumping I mentioned was the tach needle. The sensation felt is that of a standard left in gear. Faster decel.

If it was a Dodge I'd say the bad shifting is normal. Modern vehicles are more aggressive in upshifting and downshifting for fuel economy though.

My Sierra revs the motor, rpm goes up past 4k while I'm braking with the tow/haul on.
Can't use cruise and tow at the same time as it does it everytime I hit the brake.
Brought it in when it was a month old and left it a week and they said it was normal.

The tach? Not sure it's going to show much. I'll let you drive it next time you're up here.

Welcome to the new GM line of trucks. The dealer will tell you this is normal operation yada yada blah blah blah...

Mine does this also along with a myriad of other shifting issues that is "normal" for this series.

just wait till it does it in stop and go traffic and that tach jumps up and you have to stand on the brake peddle.
