Just had Les on.....Does anybody else notice that he never answers the question about whether there is a chance he will be the Michigan coach next year? They asked him point blank: 1. Did you talk to Michigan; 2. Did your "people" talk to Michigan; and 3. Is there no chance you will be coaching in Michigan next year?
Miles responded: I...uhhhh....I have not spoken to Michigan and my people, to my knowledge, have not talked to Michigan.
He did not answer the other question.....and I have not seen where he has EVER answered this question. Even the presser before the SEC Championship game....didn't specifically address this.
Don't throw rocks at me, but seems that if I wanted to make sure everybody knew I was not going, I would just come out and say it. Has he ever actually said this (beyond "I'm happy here...I plan to be here for a long time...etc....)

in my mind -- it's not over until michigan hires a HC whose name is not les miles ...

Before the game he said "I will be the coach at LSU next year" to the sideline reporter. This was after the press conference and just before kickoff.

Actually he has. He told the sideline reporter that before the SECCG and he said it again on ESPN last night.

What does next year mean? 2008....January 7, 2008?

Now you're just refusing to listen to what the man is saying.

I did. I think this thing isn't over yet (hope I'm wrong).

He specifically said after the game that he would be the lsu coach for years to come -- no wiggle room. Those were his words. "no wiggle room."

You may be right...I just find the words he chooses to use very odd.....instead of "I will be coach for a long time...no wiggle room", he could say: I will not take a job with Michigan if offered...I'm happy here, and there is no other job I would take. I will NOT interview with Michigan, as I am not interested in that job at all.
But he never says that...

Before the SECCG he said he would be the lsu coach next year.
Yesterday on ESPN they asked him when he said he was "home" what did that mean. He responded that "home" is where he and is family is happy and its where they are now, and where he will be for a long, long time.
Those are his exact words. Could he be lying? Absolutely, but in that event his saying "I will not take the Michigan job" exactly wouldn't mean shite as well.

Despite Les Miles' affirmation Saturday that he would remain Louisiana State University's football coach, Michigan athletic director Bill Martin placed a phone call Sunday to Miles' agent -- just to be certain.
Martin explained that in a released statement Sunday night, making his first public comments during the search process to replace retiring coach Lloyd Carr.
"This morning I did speak with Les' agent (George Bass), and he reaffirmed what Les said during his press conference yesterday -- that he was staying at LSU," said Martin, who stated that Miles was "one of our candidates."
"We wish Les and the LSU athletic department the best of luck in the future."
Had Miles been willing to entertain a Michigan offer as he waited to sign the verbal agreement with LSU, things could have become very interesting.
The Tigers slipped into the Bowl Championship Series No. 2 slot and, it was announced Sunday night, they will play Ohio State for the title in New Orleans on Jan. 7.
If Miles was still in limbo between U-M and LSU, trying to deal with the schools while preparing for the national title game -- the situation would have been unusual, if not unprecedented.
Martin's statement was intended to explain his side of the Saturday events.
"This past weekend, the media frenzy before and after the SEC championship game concerning the coaching fate of Les Miles did indeed take on a life of its own," Martin stated. "I want to set the record straight as it concerns Michigan's process in its coaching search. We asked LSU for permission to talk to Les Miles last week, and we were given permission to talk to Les but not until after the SEC championship game on Saturday."
By waiting, Michigan may have endangered its chances with Miles, who reached the agreement on a contract extension Saturday morning.
"As for Michigan, we are continuing with the process we established and will continue to talk with and research our list of candidates," Martin stated.
The candidates were not identified. ESPN reported Sunday that U-M defensive coordinator Ron English will get a second interview with Michigan and also will interview with Arkansas. English was unavailable for comment.
On the teleconference to announce Michigan's acceptance of the Capital One invitation, Carr said the U-M coaches have "tried to impress upon (recruits) that we will be moving toward a new coach here quickly and that really the importance of maintaining the commitments to Michigan, and I think we've had a great response."
Asked to define "quickly" as a part of the coaching timetable, Carr deferred.
"When you say quickly, we've got the month of December and Bill (Martin) has indicated, I think, that he wanted it here and done by the end of the month. So that's what it is."

I just saw the post game press conference, and he did say "I'm not going there" about Michigan, as he can't be two places at once. I hadn't seen that before. Seems pretty definitive to me......better not leave now....

I heard the "no wiggle room" comment-I am the only one that thinks he is a whole lot more honorable than our last coach, and we can take him at his word???

He will be the coach next year. If I am not mistaken, isn't the NC game in Jan 2008? Any speculation that this is what he meant??? I sure hope he will be the coach for the next few years!!!!

jeez people he said he wished he could be in two places at once but he can't. yes he wil always have a place for michigan in his heart and will root for them but he is the LSU coach and he is not going anywhere. I would have figured after seeing this conference that the michigan rumors would be done but damn rantards still can't let it rest and focus on the second crystal ball that will be coming to baton rouge!

Firsco,
If Bill Martin said it, take it to the bank. Anything else is just specualtion. The Det/AA media are just beside themselves because they can't get inside info. Not a peep. Even Lloyd does not know what BM will do.
He said he hopes to have this done by the end of Dec. I think that he will take his time. The second Ron English interview may be to cover their tracks with the Black Coaches Association riff over TAMU's hire of Sherman.
There do not now appear to be anymore significant coaching changes, so Mich is the shoe everyone is waiting to drop. There is no other school out there trying to compete with them, the recruiting class seems locked, so why rush?
Know this, Mich has approval for a $280 million upgrade to the football facilities (~$230 million to Mich Stadium). Bill Martin is on the hook to make that pay. It is rumored that he has been told to spend what it takes to get the best, which is why he has publicy said that he will pay the market rate for a new coach (and that will be the first time that Mich has paid that kind of money for a Head Football Coach). I don't doubt that there are some big monied alums willing to back that play. When Bo was being courted by TAMU, a big supporter came up with 2-3 Domino's pizza franchises to make it worth Bo's while to stay. Now Bo said he would have stayed anyway, but that kind of dough is out there.
Bo, at a difficult time during his first season posted a sign in the Locker Room that said: "Those who stay will be Champions." Some prankster added: ..."and the rest of us will be doctors, lawyers and captains of industry." There are many heavy $$$'erd supporters who will work to make something big happen.
