What aggravates me is how greedy they can be. Had a guy ask me to buy him food at mcdonald's the other day. Fine, maybe he's hungry, so I don't mind helping.
He's sitting outside, I said you can come in and pick what you want, he said no just bring it to me. I said ok what do you want? So I got him pancakes and orange juice, bring it out and hand it to him.
He immediately asks me for money for a bus ticket.
Sir, I just bought you breakfast. I gave him $1 and wished him good luck.
Knew a guy who bought a bunch of tacos for a homeless guy sitting at Burlington Coat Factory on Airline. Hands them to the guy and the guy says "I don't like tacos, can you just give me the money instead?"
If I was begging, I would take what I could get and wouldn't ask for more.
Beggar told my sister one time that she made $1,000 a week. And this was in a small town, just sitting at a truck stop.
I don't mind helping when I can but when is enough, enough?

blame the dumbasses that give them money. If people wouldn't they wouldn't have a choice but to find legitimate work

It absolutely helps. My typical responses are "Get the frick away from me" or a simple "frick off". So far it's 100% effective.

I agree. Give through the church, or other organizations, not these drifters that don't want real help or to get a job. It's BS.... I don't see how people do it, at that light every time if you did it, it'd be like paying a toll.

I give them the what the frick do you want look and just say no usually before they can even ask

At least in New Orleans, they aren't aggressive and confrontational. Plus, there are like 10 on each block in downtown Houston.
Sometimes. I've had a couple that got worry aggressive. I had my windows down one day and my music blaring and this bitch tries yelling at me. I never even turned to look.
I always feel awkward when I'm at a light because I don't know what to do. I just try to avoid eye contact.
Theres one bitch in New Orleans that can essentially cry on command. She'll sit there and start crying every night cycle.
I saw one this morning that had a sign that said, "Human Being"...if id have the chance, Id have probably rolled my window down and said something to him.

They have some that panhandle on 415 in Port Allen. I was getting gas a few weeks ago and saw them going in the casino...I assume to play video poker and drink. The woman stayed on the corner panhandling with the dog.

I always offer to but them a sandwich or something. I think two have taken me up on the offer. One time some chick came to me asking for money for formula. I happened to have formula in my car because the place we did our baby registry gave us a bunch of it. We weren't using it, and I was actually on my way to donate it. I offered it to her, and she then came clean and said she really need the money for drugs.

They can also cross-check it with the information on your card to verify your address or sell it to telemarketers. There are a lot of uses for your personal information that have nothing to do with your convenience.

yeah I've seen one guy hanging out there by the Burger King/KFC just sitting on a chair the few times I've been that way-for the past month. I had a guy wanting me to buy him gas at that Shell about a year ago.

Agree with everything you said and I'll add this.
When I'm at a gas station and someone asks me for gas money, I tell them I won't just give them money, but I'll buy something from them for gas money. Who doesn't have something of value in their car?
Last time this happened, a guy said he had nothing of value in his Jeep Cherokee to sell. I said, "Well I guess you don't need gas money bad enough because I'd pull the radio out of my truck to sell if I was desperate." He just walked away. It was a scam.
9 times out of 10 they'll deny they have anything to sell, but I've bought a nice roadside emergency kit with an air compressor and a guy sold me his jack and a big tire tool for $10.

You should get out more. Baton Rouge has nothing on other cities. Even New Orleans is 10 times worse. Like others have said, Houston is crazy. San Francisco, New York, etc., there are 2-3 bums on every block.
Other than at traffic lights, you really don't see panhandlers/bums around BR.
If everyone stopped giving them money, they would be forced to go get help from a shelter or pick up actual jobs. But, that will never happen.

It's gotten worse in NYC since the new mayor. I just keep wear my earphones and ignore them. Hell, sometimes I don't even have anything playing.

Won't matter. They're everywhere.
I saw some one day that had a baby outside that the "mother" was holding.
It haunted me for weeks. I was worried about the well being of that little baby.

I got into a bidding war with one a while back for a cigarette. He ended up giving me $1 for 1 cigarette. It was a nasty bum dollar, but I felt good knowing that I just took one of the idiot's who pay them dollars

2 guys sitting at the pump one day. I was trapped pumping my gas and they start telling me they work for CBI and need gas money to get to work in Grosse Tete. Some of their stories just make no sense. But a woman gave them $10

I would call every person in my phone to bring me money before I asked a stranger at a gas station.
