I can tell it is Christmas bourbon time, the time of year when people that don't normally drink bourbon have heard a couple of names and are now trying to locate bottles for last minute gifts.

Yep and all the flippers are going to have a very Merry Xmas. When people who dont drink whisky think they need to give a $500 bottle of Pappy instead of just grabbing some EH Taylor SB for $60. You cant convince me there is $440 dollars difference in those two bottles.

I think Golfntiger meant Single Barrel (SB or 1B) not Small Batch (SmB).

I meant Single Barrel, which when I can find it here in Ohio is about 59.99.

I agree with this... I’m not nearly as serious about the brown as most of y’all, but I have been lucky to taste some of the rare stuff. It’s hard for me to justify a bottle of pappy when I can get blantons (when I come across it) or the EH Taylor for 60ish bucks. I just don’t get that much more flavor enjoyment out of the rare stuff

If you can get the rare stuff at retail - don’t laugh, it does happen! - then it is certainly worth it. If you have to pay secondary then I absolutely agree I would be drinking Blantons and EHTSB all day long.

I will by the rare at retail for sure, I was just responding to Wick's statement about how non whisky people just want to run out and buy a bottle of the rayer for a gift on like Dec 20th-23rd. Then feeling like they need to pay secondary cause the whisky is so much better than EHTSB, Blantons, 4 Roses barrel picks etc.

I think the antique stuff is worth it’s retail, but I don’t think pappy 23 is 400 bucks better than blantons

Anyone ever had a traditional old fashioned made with lemon instead of orange peel? When drockw1 and I were at Olive or Twist last week they made it with a lemon. IT was different and crisper, not bad. Not something I would want all the time but it was good.

No liquor is worth that IMO... someone will sadly spend it though

Well there technically are some that are worth that. However most are Single Malt or Armagnacs, which are small runs a few hundred bottles or less. The Armagnacs are like wines and depend on vintages.

Hate to disappoint you bargain hunters, but Rouses on Bluebonnet just sold their $899 bottle of LotB. Maybe Donny will reach into his stash and offer another one at the same price if you ask nicely.
