When I was in banland I was on a jury in Lake Charles. Was a case against an ex catholic priest charged with two counts of aggravated rape against minors and a bunch of other fricked up shite from back in the 80's. If you've seen Spotlight then you understand why it just now came to trial. He got two consecutive life sentences which was the max we could give him. Trial took two weeks and was informative as hell considering I'm not catholic.

Sending a Priest to prison for life sounds like a quick ticket to Hell. May God have mercy on you.

Yep, drug case, 2nd offense, he refused a public defender. He was his own lawyer, didn't have a high school education....

Ever hear of the Scranton Strangler? I was the only one on the jury who thought he was innocent.

Yep got picked on jury for a rape case. As soon as they showed the first gory picture, 10 minutes into the trial, I fainted and pissed my pants.

Got excused from the trial right after. Drove back to BR and went to class that night.

I wasn't selected for the final jury but had to sit through the selection process in a federal trial involving Medicare/Medicaid fraud. The defense attorney team put on a complete clown show while the FBI agents and attorneys just sat there and said virtually nothing. The FBI had stacks of evidence they rolled in on dolleys and it appeared they thought their case was so solid it didn't matter who made up the jury.

Right before jury selection started the guy took a plea deal but the judge brought all potential jurors back in to the courthouse to announce the plea deal.

I guess to further embarrass the guy, the judge allowed the prosecutor to describe the crime in detail. Basically the guy was a welder and welded together this huge curved steel dildo that he used on his own arse while making his step children watch.

It was a huge PowerPoint presentation complete with pictures of his self-fricking tool.

I haven't registered to vote since Reagan's 1st term so I don't get jury summons.

Not like any DA would allow me on a jury anyway since I know the difference between illegality and criminality (think drug possession or looting after Katrina: water/food looting is illegal, not criminal, stereos/tv's criminal). I also would never convict for some nonsense law or just to take someone off the streets (make the case or GTFO, if the thug/brute/etc is smarter than the investigotrs so be it).

Actually sat on a jury only once and they had me as the jury foreman. The case was armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The guy was accused of going into a video store/tanning bed place one morning before it opened, pistol whipping the women who worked there, and stealing the money from the cash register.

The whole case the DA brought against him was based on the pistol whipped lady picking his picture out of a line-up book of all local juvenile offenders (guy was actually like 19 or 20 by this time though). They also had a video from a store next door that was supposed to show him going in. In the video the guy had a red hooide on with the top pulled up. The only part of the guy that can actually be seen is his forearm which is quite muscular. You could not see his face in the video at all.

The defense built their case on the fact the defendant had several people testify he was nowhere near the store that morning. His boss testified when he picked him up (which would have put him in this guy's truck at the time of the crime). The boss also had receipts showing them being at Home Depot in B'ham not much later which means they had to go straight there without stopping anywhere, much less long enough to pistol whip and rob a place. His neighbor testified that he saw the boss pick him up and leave with him. They even wheeled this guy's little old grandmother in there to testify she was there when he left with his boss. In addition to this, the defense pointed out despite repeated attempts and searches the cops had never found this red hoodie, the gun, or the money he was supposed to have stolen. There were no prints of his in the place, no trace he'd ever been there. And on top of all this, the guy's forearms were about as big around as a #2 pencil while the guy in the video had huge forearms.

Needless to say when we got into the deliberation room everyone was ready to vote not guilty. We didn't even have to talk it over due to the overwhelming proof this guy could not have done the crime. I left the court house that day feeling terrified how inept and stupid the DA for where I lives looked that day.

Pretty much every jury duty I've had has to do with rape of a minor by an adult. One time, it was the father that was charged and the mother had birth control implanted in the daughter so she wouldn't get pregnant. During voir dire they led the Dad into the courtroom in full shackles. Luckily I didnt get picked for that one. It was a high profile case that had been in the news and the trial went a full week.

I served on a murder trial...a nasty, convoluted case. The witnesses are mostly crummy people. The star witness knew he'd be up for a hit. Sho nuff a few months later they found him in a canefield.

BR 2001. 2nd degree murder. Guy entered a trailer with a screwdriver and killed a couple gays. I was questioned in the jury box about the defendants right to not testify. The judge didnt like me too much with my responses about "well if i was not guilty i would testify...how can someone stay quiet if they didnt kill the people?" I was dismissed

Guy was convicted btw

I was on the jury that convicted David Liou.

He was the guy that stole trade secrets from Dow Plaquemine.

Me? No.

A friend was on a NYC jury for an adult male accused of molesting a very young girl. The man got away with it, even though my friend swears the evidence was absolutely overwhelming. ( after the fourth 'hung jury' of 11-1, he finally relented and just voted not guilty with everyone else. )

My friend is a really over-educated PhD, lily-white liberal type who was horrified at the behavior of the mostly black, mostly female jury he was a part of.

I first heard this story in 2013, and it was the first time I started to waiver from my otherwise bulletproof liberal beliefs.

Have been exempt from jury duty since I changed jobs six years ago. The courts need me out doing my job more (reviewing cases involving the criminally insane) than they need me sitting in a jurors' box. Jury duty is an important responsibility of citizenship. After I retire, I might give it a try.

part of a jury pool, that hasn't been seated

Two guys on trial for simple theft, from a inside of a car at the car wash they worked at. Shocked that something like this goes to trial in New Orleans. But one of the defendants had priors, guessing it might have sent him back to prison for a spell.

As soon as we all take our seats the judge reads the charges and the other defendant announces he wants to change his plea to guilty. The look on the other defendant's face was priceless.

They picked a new jury that found him not guilty.

Mrs. Füt has been on the Grand Jury several times.

Interesting stuff although she "can't" talk about it.

I know people so I get out of jury duty.
