Any good restaurants in Monroe around ULM or the mall? I know there is the chains but was wondering?

Just north of town in Sterlington there is a place called The Fish House. It's not Cotton but it's better than fast food. Had pretty good burgers and even the steak I had one night was actually pretty good.
Boiled shrimp was good too.

Cotton is one of the best restaurants in all of Louisiana

That's where me, balls and Otis grazed at last time. They had to hit the river and run their nets after we left.

Don't limit yourself. Monroe is small...you can get anywhere in 5-10 minutes.

Cotton is legit
I like the Mediterianian quesadilla at Trios
Rawz is legit
The Greek place on 165 - love it
Freddie's on old sterlington - hole in the wall - get the snapper special
Genusa's is a great value for lunch - they have the best steak in town and their other dishes are good.
Geno's - the food is legit - the red sauce has a hearty kick - not all can stomach the building
Does - I like their tamales - everything is good - see Genusa's for best steak
I still like Sage at times but times but it is hit or miss - the salad bar is still decent
Waterfront is always nice - wait for a table by the water
Warehouse is always reliable -

I haven't been here and never really spent any time in Monroe so probably shouldn't comment, but I suspect you may be possibly exaggerating a bit

Your post is generally speculative in a non quantifiable generic uninformed sort of way.

What do you know about Cotton? I never go to Monroe, but I've seen his plates. Wow. It all looks fantastic. New Orleans is the best food city in the state, but good restaurants exist outside of it. I'm willing to bet that Cory could compete here. If you categorically dismiss him because he's not from NOLA you're ignorantly limiting yourself. If you've had the food and you're unimpressed, fine, but somehow I doubt that's the case.
And from what I've read he pays into the community. I respect the hell out of that.

Waterfront Grill is on the bayou by ULM. I'd recommend a few double high balls by way of 24oz styrofoam cups before a divine ribeye or Catfish DeSiard dish.
You should also make it a point to visit Danken Trail in the curve on Hwy 80 for lunch. Get the chopped brisket sandwich with a side quart of baked beans and an extra slice of their buttered Texas toast. This will be used for a baked bean fold-over after you've drowned a few heaping ladles worth of them. A little secret is that they will sale you a small or large pan of these delicacies in a cardboard box for traveling. I'm sure you will want to take a pan home after you've seen the light.
Cotton is a must, if you have time in God's Country after the aforementioned locations.

I'm with you on the Danken but Waterfront needs a kick in the arse, as bad as I hate to say it. I've been a couple times in the last month. The food just isn't near as good as it used to be. I'm going to wait a good while before I go back.

I like nonna more than cotton but can't go wrong at either
Waterfront is ok. Pretty damn expensive for Monroe though

It's a good restaurant. Hell, I'll even say really really good. Subjectively, it probably wouldn't crack the top 20 in New Orleans. It's as good as any trying to do what it does, here, though.
