Update 4/19/2016 at 2:07 p.m.

An emotional Chad Hoover when live on Facebook to deliever a full statement regarding this event. Chad revealed that the cheater, Andrew Shepherd, used 3 Hawg Troughs; one normal, one that was 2? shorter, and one that was 4.25? shorter. This not only allowed him to gain inches, but also submit single fish multiple times.

Chad said that this amounts to “felony theft and grand larceny” across “multiple venues…and competitive platforms.”

We, at the Kayak Bass Series, take pride in running a fair and fun tournament. We had an excellent 2015 year, and up until this past weekend at the Dale Hollow Lake Open, we had two great 1st events!

We had an excellent showing of some of the best anglers around the country fishing their asses off. Dale Hollow was a challenging lake for many, and while we didn’t have many limits caught, we did have a ton of AWESOME fish caught.

While I was writing up the recap for the event yesterday, I was going through the winners photos, finally, and literally at the same time that I was looking at it, I realized that I was receiving messages from numerous individuals throughout the kayak fishing community asking me to second look all the submissions for the winners.

Upon further review, I discovered that the winning angler’s measuring board had been altered in a manner that would extend the length of a fish approximately 4 total inches more than the fish would normally measure.

It has been decided by the KBS Committee that this angler is to be disqualified from this event, stripped of his earnings and title for this event, and banned from the Kayak Bass Series in whole, indefinitely. Further actions are under consideration and the angler will be dealt with to the maximum extent possible.

We are in the midst of contacting the other winners to make all of this right, and will be following up, most likely -mid-next week with a full recap. The leaderboard on iAngler Tournament has been updated to show the true standings for the Dale Hollow Event (LINK ) and the Angler Of The Year Points will be updated shortly.

My deepest apologies for all the other anglers that competed, as it’s not just about the money, it’s about the whole experience. We urge you to forgive us for the oversight, but also allow us to make it right moving forward. We are taking steps to secure situations like this from happening again, and we will be making some announcements very soon about that.

We don’t take this lightly. The Kayak Tournament Community shouldn’t ever have to go through this, but things like this do happen from time to time. It’s up to us to correct the course and push through.

Thank you for your time, energy, belief, and support. It’s greatly appreciated, and we are looking forward to putting all of this behind us and getting to the next event. - Andrew Cameron & KBS Management

A guy shortened his Hawg Trough in a CPR tournament by 4", which made all his fish appear 4" longer in the pics.

Looks like the dude made his own measuring board. If the grey one is legit than the yellow one under it is measuring long. Not sure how this got past the judges. It's pretty obvious that is not an 18 1/2 inch bass on the yellow board.

Kayak tournament fisherman are a strange bunch.

YEP! If they kill this guy over that picture it will be BS. If they are going to indefinitely suspend someone they need to have the board in hand to measure it.

Now that you posted the second picture I see the problem haha!

An 11" trout would measure 15". That measuring board would sell out in Louisiana!

That so bad it's obvious. Just measure 12 to 18 and take that 6 inch measurement back from 12.

Dude cheated balls out. An inch or so wouldn't be so obvious.

I remember organizers catching a guy cheating in a tournament somewhere and they prosecuted the guy.

Think it was a felony.

My dad and his friend used to fish a lot of tournaments, mostly smaller, local ones. But, they entered and won a bigger one once. Everyone who placed had to take a polygraph test before the prizes were given out.

Alot of kayak bass tournaments use a CPR(Catch, Photo, Release) format where your total length for 5 fish is used to determine your placing. No place to put a livewell to hold a 5 fish stringer on a kayak, so those fish would have had to be weighed in dead.
