Since it's been established by the board here that Snyder's "BvS" is a paragon of directorial achievement, it got me thinking.

What historical directors (Hitchcock, Preminger, Ford, etc)would the M/TV board want to see take a crack at the genre?

I nominate Sam Peckinpah. Obviously haven't seen the real one yet, but "Sam Peckinpah's Suicide Squad" could be interesting.

An Orson Welles Superman movie might be cool. I can maybe see Hitchcock doing Batman.

Honestly, we forget that a lot of classic directors were doing the genre pictures of the day. Hitchcock, Ford, Hawks... those guys would've been fantastic at playing with the genre conventions of the superhero film. If I could assign them each a franchise...

Hawks could do Moon Knight or some other film noir-ish street hero. Ford, being the master of western and its anti-heroes, would have made a great X-Men movie, and Hitchcock could peel back the sexual deviance at the heat of Wonder Woman.

Seriously, though, Leone's minimalist (and somewhat nihilistic) take on the western genre that changed how we looked at Westerns in the 60s would play well here, too.

Fun topic.

Lean gets Captain America and the Howling Commandos
I'd want to see Kubrick's take on the X-Men.
Tarkovsky gets Swamp Thing.
Billy Wilder gets Moon Knight
John Huston should do something big, perhaps Avengers or JLA.

Easy one: Dazzler. Make it a disco musical.

Oh, and Sam Peckinpah would do a violent indie comic like Sleeper.

Damn, I didn't even think of Mel Brooks. That would be awesome. Gene Wilder as Batman and Marty Feldman as Robin.

Can you imagine DeMille with access to today's SFX/CGI? I don't know which superteam he would direct (Avengers/JL), but we know one thing: it would be GRAND!

I've got it!
Mel Brooks presents..."Zorro vs the Inquisition"! Zorro is a Spanish Jew who never expected the Inquisition to come to town!

Or, we could have him remake "Captain America: The First Avenger" so he can do more Hitler jokes. "Heil myself!"

Gene Wilder as the Joker. Hedley Lamar as the Riddler.

Cary Elwis stars in "Superman in Tights"!

I think we could say Kurosawa would make a good Deadpool, Deathstroke, or Batman with Ra's Al Ghul as the bad guy.

Charlie Chaplin would make a good Daredevil. Make it a blind, deaf, mute superhero. Could be interesting.

Woody Allen and Frederico Fellini would make some that critics would love that i'd hate with a passion.

Fellini or Allen? Just think what Ingmar Bergman would do. People complained about the hard to follow BvS...

A Luke Cage/Iron Fist movie seems like it'd have Tarentino written all over it.

Who do y'all peg for a good fit to direct a Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth adaptation? Not something loosely based on it like the Arkham games, someone who could manage to make a faithful(ish) adaptation.
