I think it's pretty cool but the fan boys blowing this game Is a little much. Yes he scored 60 which sounds amazing but it's not like he displayed anything that would anyone in awe. There was no athleticism or amazing hot streaks or anything special. Yeah he is an old legend and cool he is going out with this on his stat sheet, but truth is he jacked up 50 shots with no D in a pointless game

60 is impressive. Especially at his age. But I'm not sure there is anybody in the league who couldn't score that when shooting 50 shots.
Meh. There are some players who could do what he did. But it's a short list. He wound back the clocks last night. This was no all star game. They didn't give him shite. They were guarding his arse and they knew he was shooting it.
Did he jack up a bunch of threes and shoot like shite from behind the arc? Yea. That's how he got to 60. But he was 16-29 for 42 points from inside the arc. Not many people can do that.
As for the OP, it was a ton of fun to watch and I'll remember it. But it is what it is. A great performance, but not very meaningful.

I for one am glad i stayed up to watch it. I'll remember it for a long time.
ANd i'm sure most on here saying "meh" didn't even watch the game.
Sure he took a shite load of shots. He was 44% from the field on those 50 shots. Boston beat Miami last night. They were 43% from the field in their victory. WHo cares that he took 50 shots. Everyone watching wanted him too.
It's one thing to just go out and try to score as many points possible. It's another to do it and do it winning the game single handedly.
If you watched the game, you'd know that he took a ton of contested shots. Hell the Jazz tried to double team him twice in the waning minutes, and he looked like 30 year old Kobe in those last 3 minutes. They were down 8 with less than 3 minutes left. Kobe scored 15 points in those last 3 minutes and was 5 of 5 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free throw line. The Jazz did not look like they let him do anything. They looked shocked that he was doing what he was doing, and so was everyone else, b/c he looked like he could barely move and then all of a sudden he looked liked old Kobe for those last 3 minutes on offense.

I've enjoyed being a Kobe hater over the years but was pulling for him last night. I thought he put on a show that adds to his legacy. Curious if there will be another chapter playing internationally or if his competitive days are done.
I grew up a Laker fan in the 80s and then again with Shaq but became a Laker hater when it felt like you were forced to pick between Shaq and Kobe.

Clearly everyone calling it an exhibition or all star game just woke up and checked the stat line. No way they watched.

It's not like he took 50 shots and they lost. You can tell who didn't watch too because they just assume the D let him get his. He was taking and making contested shots all night.

I've never liked Kobe, but always respected his game and his will to win. Also, his Muse documentary really dove into his mindset, which I thought was cool to see.
Last night was awesome. I was pulling for him the entire time. Great way for a legend of the game to go out. It was bittersweet for me also. My childhood is officially closed. No more Jeter, Chipper, Griffey, Favre, Manning, Kobe. Only ones hanging around are Tiger and Brady.

Was an appropriate send off game for a throwaway Lakers season.
Would have been considerably more impressed if he had led a young team to the playoffs, rather than collecting mementos on each road trip.

This. The Jazz defenders were on him all night. It's also not like the other lakers were forgoing wide open layups to kick the ball out to Kobe for a 25 foot 3. Sure they deferred to him most of the night, but they took their shots when they had em.

Jeter with a walk off single in Yankee Stadium was better to me.

This is almost perfectly stated.

Scoring 17 consecutive points including the game winner and out scoring the entire Jazz team in the 4th is not a hot streak. Come on man. I'm not even a Kobe fan boy but that's just dumb.

When Kobe scored 81 points he took 46 shots.
So taking 50 shots tonight and scoring 50 ranked up there with an old man ending his career as the GOAT ball-hog.
Congrats, ball-hog-mamba on a great ball-hog alienate and drive teammates (Shaq, etc) away career.

Kobe is my favorite athlete of all time, so to me it was absolutely incredible. From the rough start to scoring the last 15 or so in 3 minutes was great. The Staples center was electric.
If I were a real OT baller on the west coast, i absolutely would have been there.
