Brmark
Do you think Kentucky or North Carolina would retain a coach like JJ? LSU can't inbound a pass. Only option of breaking a zone is threes. Where is the defense? Have you seen serious game management in tight games?
Patrick was our only solid recruiter? He was with JJ for four years. He leaves Jones for TCU! So What quality assistant, who has a job, wants to jump into Jones situation?

Best thing JJ's got going for him is F K Alexander. He doesn't care about sports. That's another serious problem for another day.

Spot on right here there is no other college program who would keep Johnny cakes the guy has no resume and has really underperformed here this year was bad and I don't know why he gets a pass for the 13-14 season we had a pt guard who was top 2 in the country in steals we had another guard who was one of our best 3pt shooters of alltime they were both starters since their fresh year and we had 3 nba frontline players job3 Martin and Mickey and didn't make the tourney. The rest of the sec gets it we have a network and tv money now everyone's upgrading but us and if coaches like howland Barnes and Johnson get too far ahead of us we will never catch em

The class has nice players? Where? Mays is ok but far from a star this juco center we have avged 6pts and 5rebs a game in juco!! We have no front line we have no depth all we can hope for is blakeney coming back and having a huge year and even that doesn't promise wins we'd need Sampson epps and Robinson to make huge strides for that to happen. Yes I agree with you we haven't hit bottom like the end of dales run but we are on the edge of the cliff staring into the abyss

I think we will have two potential all-SEC performers in Blakeney and Victor (both should average 15ppg+). I'm hoping Sampson emerges and one of the front court guys finally breaks out (Robinson, Epps or Bridgewater). Mays should be a player right away, splitting time with Patterson. The JUCO guys should give the team some depth and if Sims or Hayward give us anything, that would be a bonus. In a bad SEC conference, that isn't a bad team. As long as they stay healthy, they'll finish with a winning record.. I know that might piss you off, but they aren't as bad as you think they are..

I'd love that but there's a lot of ifs in your statement which is kinda what I said before. I think Blake can breakout I think Sampson could be a dangerous wing man love his length athleticism and shooting ability mays is a freshman I think he can handle playing the position but I don't expect him to set the world on fire. Victor is a very good 4 if he has to play 5 again this year we are wasting him we need a center and the problem is even if Elbert improves I don't see jj playing him he prefers a smaller faster lineup but if you're gonna play that way everyone has to be efficient with the ball and be able to shoot. I don't think we have enough of that to be a winner

We lost the top player in state to Baylor the next two to umass we landed the 6th and 8th players in state there were 5 out of the top 10 players in state over 6-8 220 we landed zero of em and that's the spot of need. We are in a downward spiral

We are not Kentucky or North Carolina. We do not have top 5 recruiting classes ever year. But I'm not going to demand that they fire a coach that wins 19-20 games every year and has never had a losing season (especially Alumni). This past year was frustrating, but had it's moments. I'm not holding it against him that much. We'll see after next season. But I'm hoping he surprises a lot of people and the team exceeds expectations..

Some people on here have acted like Mays will be a difference maker. I will be a "told you so" on this one. He will be average at best.

Mediocrity is acceptable for powers that be until attendance suffers dramatically . Only then will change come.

Wow. Another free pass. In what many said was a Sweet 16 or bust year for JJ. Well if you're giving him a pass for this year- no way you have expectations for next season. Clarence is that you?

I think there were circumstances beyond his control and others that he was forced to accept. Perhaps he could have reacted better and made different decisions. But he is a young coach and he is learning. I expected more, but never thought we were guaranteed to make the sweet 16. The team is extremely young and had too many holes to make a ton of noise. The ones that put out those expectations want Jones gone. Its just not realistic..

Looking at LSU's win-loss record under Jones is misleading at best. LSU plays a weak out of conference schedule and the SEC is one so the weaker major conferences. What the LSU fans (including me) are looking at is the lack of consistent focus and intensity, lack of depth (especially in the paint), poor defense and rebounding in many games, appearance of suboptimal in game coaching and adjustments, excessive player turnover and too few junior and senior contributors, and apparent growing reputation of a coach that may be over his head, etc. He has had 4 years here and should not be blaming Trent Johnson for the current state of the program. In fact, year 5 should be one of his best years as far as results because of the time he has had to build a program. I'm hopeful, but doubtful that next year will be anything but a disappointment. If we aren't in the NCAA tourney next year, he should be fired, IMO.

What are you talking about?

Trent Johnson wasn't fired, he left LSU to go to TCU. He was 18-14 and 7-9 in conference play.
John Brady was fired midseason with an 8-13 overall record and a 1-6 conference record.
Dale Brown was "asked" to retire he went 10-20.
Before that Press Maravich went 10-16.

No one was fired or asked to leave with a winning record.

He is not a young coach and he certainly doesn't learn and adapt from mistakes.

Johnny is 55 and has been a head coach for 16 seasons at Division I institutions. He's also spent nearly 2 additional decades as an assistant at Division I institutions. If he isn't getting it done he never will. It's a complete excuse to say "he's young and learning"

Other than injuries, this is absolutely a poor excuse as well. Hornsby a senior, Gray a senior, Quarterman a junior, Malone a junior...there were plenty of upper classmen on this team to go along with what was an INCREDIBLE freshmen pull in Simmons, Blakeney & Sampson. Teams win with freshmen all the time in the new college basketball, much less than the miss-mash of young talent and experience we had.

Huh? Jones put those expectations on himself. He took us to the tournament last year and returned some talented guys only to add the #1 overall pick and a couple other high talents. The expectation at minimum was making the tournament. He failed massively with this team considering the talent and experience. It's why he was a laughing stock in the media the whole season. From the early season laughable losses to straight out getting embarrassed in a must win game in the SECT. He never had this team, and it showed all season.

I would say go get Randy Livington, he would kill to be on the LSU staff.

Not so sure anymore.

I'll agree the chemistry probly wasn't ideal but that's on him to fix it and bench the players who arnt buying in you'll see attitudes change when you have stars sitting on the bench. Most great coaches coach their best players the hardest. There's nowhere to hide anymore he just can't do it I was hoping his recruiting would offset his X's and O's and it just hasn't happened now recruiting is suffering so there's no upside to keeping him

Young coach? Jones has been a D-I head coach now for 15 years!!

The team was "extremely young"? Our top 7 minutes played were 2 seniors, 1 junior, 2 sophomores, 2 freshmen. Sorry, that's not that young.

The team had "too many holes"? Ok, who's responsible for the roster? He's been here 4 years. Plenty of time to rebuild a basketball roster.

We all saw a team that couldn't break down a 2-3 zone on multiple occasions and that's bad for a college basketball team. I wish we could have went after Dan Majerle from Grand Canyon.

could have gone. you are on a school oriented website. learn something.

Ok... now to your post.
Embrace the horror.
One more year - & JJ is toast. Relax, let it come to you. From the depths of despair shall come a new coach.
