How about pouring them into a small bowl, fishing the number you want out with a slotted spoon or fork and pour the rest back into the jar?

Works for me.

I think I got the recipe out of Cooking Light years ago. Versions are all over the web.

I've posted this before, but Pioneer Woman has a recipe that is an add-on to her normal red wine braised short ribs. After it is all cooked, you remove the ribs and add grainy mustard, heavy cream, and a healthy heap of capers (2+ tblspoons) and let it reduce a little. It brings the short ribs to a whole different level, and it is fantastic.
