A
B
I always thought "A" until our office was redone last year and EVERY FREAKING OUTLET is "B" now.

it's A. If you do B, your plugs will want to fall out of the socket.

A
Technically it doesn't matter but I'd venture to say 93.675% of outlets are A.

I don't see any difference. Is this some insider, cool guy, electrician humor?

A is the first intention but B is done now because if cord or wire were to fall down on a partially plugged on outlet A it would cause a short
For the purposes of litigation B is now correct

The electrician I used a while back put them all A, except for one. It was one up high on the wall in the laundry room. I asked him the next time he was out if he had done that on purpose, like if one up high there was a legit reason to have it flipped. He just laughed and said he must have been tired by the time he got to that one. He offered to flip it over for me, but I told him not to worry and I'd get to it.

B used to be the standard, but now it is A. My house is older, and I had to go through and flip them all around because it annoyed me that they were all B

In high school, I was needing a few days off, so on a Monday I stuck a paper clip into on of those in biology class. Shocked the piss out of me, but hey, I got my mandatory 3 days off!

I accidentally grabbed an outlet in a floor plug once. Not sure what was wrong with the wiring, but I felt a nice tingle and my arm was numb for a few minutes. Thankfully it was only 110. And I was like 14.

I don't believe the NEC has a requirement, so either is correct according to it.
