Mmmmmm. Makes me want to try the baba ganoush now.
I am going for lunch Sunday, and this will be my first time with others instead of alone, so I'm excited to get the sharable things I couldn't get by myself.

lutenitsa + either lamb ragu or curried fried cauliflower hummus.
Must orders.
Must orders.

One person got the lamb kabob which I tasted. Very good, but not really a kabob. There were no skewers and the texture was more like ground lamb.
What? The kebab served at Shaya is absolutely, 100% kebab. Kebab does not have to be served on skewers; it is a very wide term encompassing a variety of grilled, stewed, or baked meats.

The lunch menu is missing a few good items from the menu, mainly the kibbeh
How is theirs made and is it served on the dinner menu?
Good advice in your post.

Next time. I really want to try the curried fried cauliflower hummus most.

You're right. I'm wrong. I should have phrased it better pointing out that they were not what we expected which would have been chunks of meat on a skewer.
Thank you for correcting me.

I went to a set dinner upstairs a few months ago but 2 nights ago was the first time downstairs. Between the hummus, falafel, pita, and avocado toast, I was full before my entree came. We got the slow cooked lamb and Shakshouka entrees and had enough for dinner the next night. Overall I was very impressed with the whole experience. Even though open table has the restaurant booked for weeks, there were tables available throughout the night.

I tried to book a table two weeks out...no luck.

The OT situation with Shaya seems very odd. I use OT as a reference, but I haven't used it for a reservation in well over a year and didn't use it much before. I just don't trust it.

Will try that the next time down. Filled the spot with Bon Ton.

Its beef and lamb tartar that is slightly oily from the fat. It doesn't seem like a huge portion, but enough to share as you don't want to eat the entire serving yourself as it's very rich. It's served with a bread that is like a less sweet baklava crust. It's the bomb.
I don't have much experience to know whether that's the traditional way or their own style.

My reservation for 4 on Sunday was done via OpenTable a week ago,,, granted it is lunch.
Last time I went I just walked in and sat at the bar, but it was also Sunday and I was alone. So that's different.

Did you go for lunch yesterday?
Posted on 4/4/16 at 8:22 pm to Gris Gris
I did. Fantastic all around..
Baba ganoush
Lutenitsa
Moroccan carrots
Tabbuleh
Pickles (with pickled cabbage and cauliflower)
Tahiti hummus
Lamb ragu hummus
Matzo ball soup
Lamb kebabs
.. The favorites of the table being the lamb ragu hummus, the Moroccan carrots, and the lamb kebabs. I'd have never ordered that particular hummus so I'm glad someone here insisted.
All that food plus a cocktail and soft drinks for $115 is not too shabby either.

Quite the spread. Definitely a lot of food and drink for that amount. What did y'all think of the matzo ball soup?

Actually it was me who ordered the soup. I really enjoyed the flavor. You could taste the duck in the broth even when you didn't get duck in the bite. I barely touched it though because I was full at that point. I'll be eating it for lunch tomorrow.
