Question about the minority hiring thingy

The ED of the Black Coaches Assoc. said that aTm's hiring of Mike Sherman shows a blatant disregard for "doing things the right way".
My question is, why is it automatically "the right way" when you interview a black coach and "the wrong way" otherwise?
I don't remember any Hispanic or Asian coaches getting interviewed either.
My other question is, what black coach would swallow his pride enough to accept a "token" interview for a job that he has no chance of getting?
Looking for intelligent comments here. I am already aware that:
a) the NFL requires a black coach to be interviewed but colleges are not
b) Mike Sherman was the only candidate interviewed by aTm.

I guess Im old school but I just think that if you have a guy in mind and he interviews and answers all of the questons correctly, HIRE HIM! Who cares if he is white black or yellow! I understand the race card, but in this instance I just dont see it being justified.

Apparently somebody cares, there are only about 6 black coaches in 116 colleges. You think that's a coincidence?

So you want to correct bigotry with reverse bigotry?

Yeah and most hardware store owners are white. What's your point. Most jazz musicians are black, does that mean that there are no good white ones or are all black jazz artists racists and wont hire white musicians. Can't have it both ways. Not trying to start a fight but I hate this argument. It is very one sided and doesn't hold water.

Spare me.
This is being blown WAY out of proportion.
1. Dont you think a guy with NFL experience, is your first pick anyway, interviews well, and gives you a good deal on a contract would automatically be a hire. Why keep interviewing if you know who you are going to hire.
2.You ever stop and think that the stock of black and hispanic and asian and arab coaches who are good enough to coach D1 Football MIGHT be in short suppy? Just like alot of pro baseball players are hispanic and alot of pro basketball players are black. If there were NO black college coaches AT ALL then there would be reason for suspicion, but otherwise these people need to keep their mouths shut.
This isn't 1960...stop playing the "race card" and move on.

If miles leaves, how many coaches are on the radar to be hired?
break it down- white, black, hispanic, asian.

if someone like herm edwards was a LSU alum and loves LSU and would like to coach here, les miles leaves, we interview only him and hire him, you think people will complain that we didn't interview any white coaches???????
shut the hell up about this and earn the job. you forget that blacks aren't even the most populous minority anymore. the hispanics should be the ones complaining before blacks.

Since we are talking about equality and being fair when it comes to race, let's talk about positions. If we are going to be required to have a certain amount of black in the coaches job, let's not go all the way and have a certain amount of whites in all positions on the playing field. Well, if we did that, then we wouldn't have the best players in those positions, would we? Why should a white wide reciever be placed in that position if a black wide reciever is faster and more agile? I'll tell you why, because we want the best person playing in the position to help the team win. Therefore, for anyone to sit here and say that black coaches deserve special consideration for the coaches position because of his race is just idiotic. Choose the coach on his knowledge of the game, his track record and his perormance as a coach. Don't choose him because he is a certain race.

i don't care, i hate african americans saying that every time they don't get something, they blame it on the white guys, it is the white guys fault, it pisses me off, but i don't care, we need to move on, we need to stop talking about race.

6 of 116, its statistically improbable that it would work out that way given the normal predicates for entry into this particular field. However being from LA, i have no illusions that you'll see it this way. you're certainly entitled to your bigoted worldview...

No I don't. I think that by your numbers most of the 110 white coaches and Sylvester Croom are competent and the other five black coaches were politically correct token hires.

Dumbass, you're condemning someone for being from Louisiana and stereotyping what you think his views are. Congratulations, you are as ignorant as the person you thought you were bettern than.

Who gives a shite if they coaches are white, black, green or blue?!?! certain races are just LOOKING for reasons to bitch and play the race card. I guess vick and OJ are gettin unjust treatment b/c of there race too??

There are 12 percent black people in the US. If they hired 8 more black coaches would the bitching stop? NO!!!! All you would hear is there are 14 black coaches out of 119. Hire the best coach, PERIOD.
Posted on 11/30/07 at 12:19 am to JJ27
Blacks should be given more chances to be coaches, IF the same thing is done for white athletes

Didn't ULL get burned by the race card? I heard the former head coach sued because he was fired due to his race and not the fact that he couldn't win a game to save his life.
This may not be totally true but my buddy that works there (professor) said that the school is paying through the nose and will never hire another black coach again for fear of another law suit.

That is exactly what happened
