I use Google Flights regularly to keep an eye out..., but I am assuming time out from flight matters..?

So like.. if I want to fly into LAX in mid-late July, it is best to check a month from now?

Depends on how many people you have going with you. It's $300 roundtrip from Houston IAH for the nonstop flight for most of the month, it's $347 from BTR or MSY.

One issue is if you do drive to houston, the nonstop flight leaves at 8:45am so you'd have to leave real early or the night before. Also, another question to take into consideration: is a 5 hour drive worth it to save $94 for 2 people/ $141 for 3 people/etc?

Yeah, general rule of thumb is 2-3 months. Sometimes they post deals for a lot further in advance (like there are some deals for late august out now if your dates are set in stone).

Cuse I have been waiting for one of these threads man.

Flying to Chicago May 25, coming back May 31 out of New Orleans on Southwest. Nonstop flights. I thought prices may drop a little but they have actually been increasing. Should I pull the trigger on the tickets now?

Several things: 1. How often do you fly? If you're going to book on southwest, I'd book whatever the price is now and if you see it decrease within the next month or two you can get a travel credit for southwest on the fare difference. You would have a year from when you first purchased the ticket to use it.

2. You're trying to travel over memorial day weekend, when almost everyone has off. I'm not surprised it's not cheap. However, don't forget the best time to book tickets is 2-3 months out, we're at about 2 months 3 weeks right now so it could very well go down over the next few weeks.

3. I've been keeping an eye on chicago flights for the past two months and I haven't seen anything cheap like I saw for early January or February (~ $95 range). Everything has been up around $175/$200. Either all the airlines are doing very well on selling tickets or they're due for a fare sale soon.

Here's a sample google flights on American MSY-MIA-BZE Friday 5/13- Saturday 5/21. It's either American or United MSY-IAH-BZE. In the link you can x out of the flights if you want to browse the calendar for better dates

Appreciate your work.

I can't believe how much of a pain it is to get to Cincy. Granted, I am trying to go for the Kentucky Derby weekend.

Anyone ever flown "allegiant" they are the only ones with non stop, but they leave Thursday at noon. Only about $125 round trip.

Trying to hold out for something on Friday though because of work.

I haven't flown them but for that price I'd gladly take it. If you can, pay the few extra $$ and get an exit row or bulkhead seat. It looks like the flights to CVG from MSY are on an A319. The seat pitch looks like it's the exact same as united's.

For the derby weekend, book the one-way on united for friday 5/6 ($125) and on the way back take allegiant sunday morning (8am) for $51. That way you don't have to leave til friday and you only have to deal with allegiant on one flight in case it's that bad

I've flown with them once (round trip). They certainly won't ever be my first pick, but the prices are hard to beat. I read an article recently that their aircrafts have been having a lot of emergency landings lately, don't have a link. It's worth the risk, imo

Don't plan on leaving or arriving on time.

Cuse I've been looking at flights from lft to nyc for July. Of course it's too early for decent prices but looking for fun say in April if I look today there may be $290 tickets and then the next time I look there is nothing that price.

And any idea if booking a package through Expedia is a bad move? Much better pricing for hotel/airfare combo.

And by the way I stalk the OT for your airfare thread!!

I really hope they have these cheap fares for Seattle next year. Trying to decide whether to fly directly to Vancouver for our cruise or to Seattle and then take the Amtrak to Vancouver so I can see a little of both cities. Airfare that cheap would make it a VERY easy choice.

All of April until the second week of May. There's a lot of good one-way fares from Seattle to New Orleans for $92 until June, but it looks like delta stopped selling the new orleans-seattle leg cheap at the second week of May. If you were thinking of traveling in april/early may, I'd book it now

The cheapest I'm seeing form laffy is $404 (and that's for the cheapest ticket in any month from now until July). If you or I see a sale on it you'll need to book it immediately because it won't last long, especially during peak summer season.

As far as booking through expedia, the only downfall would be that if you have issues with your flights for some reason, everything has to be done through expedia. If you booked it through American or Delta, you could call and have them fix an issue directly. If the price is right, you should be fine with expedia.
