Anyone own a Vizsla here? New Owner questions

Hey ODB,
Last Friday, February 26th 2016, Penny was born. Me and my girlfriend have bought a female Vizsla from an AKC registered breeder in Livingston, Texas. Bravo Vizsla. We'll get to pick her up in 7.5 weeks (8 weeks after birth). We own a retired greyhound already. She'll be 5 years old this year. And the older she has gotten, the more needy she has become for personal attention and play time. Originally she had the personality of a horse or no personality at all. We've tried several pound mutts, none of which matched her or our personalities or lifestyle. We need a true athlete to keep up with and compete with her.
With that really long story said, does anyone own or know anyone that has a Vizsla. Looking for any advice specific to the breed we can get. I've gone ahead and ordered a few breed specific books, but I'm still nervous about what we are getting into.

I had one. I don't think you need any special knowledge. Just know that the dog is going to want to be by, and I mean touching, whichever one of you becomes the boss. These things are athletes. They don't do great alone unless crated. Mine caused problems with neighbors due to boredom barking. Pretty much my favorite dog. Just ignore anything Wickowick says about them.

I know of a guy that owns one. He's not on this forum though.

There is a South Louisiana Vizsla Club, they have a facebook page. I'm sure they can help...
Or perhaps not...

We have a Boxer/Vizsla mix and he does the boredom barking as well as boredom diging if he doesn't get enough exercise. And I mean grand canyon style digging brother.

not that there is anything wrong with that...

I have Samsungs in my house and Vizla's at the camp. Can't tell a difference in the picture.

That doesn't even make any sense, even under Wick's false narrative.

Sure it does.
If you want the skills of a pointing dog, but the lazy ignorance of a lab
A vizsla is for you

ohhh man. i've thoroughly confused. is there a ongoing beef between the board's vizsla owners?
i think you are missing the entire point of us owning this dog. It's to keep a very active energetic retired greyhound happy. And we want a running dog. We both are distance runners and mountain bike.
I live within the loop in Houston. This dog ain't hunting or pointing at shite outside of the neighborhood squirrels and the possum that runs thru the backyard from time to time.

Don't know anything about them, but it's a good looking dog.
Not to be a smartass, but if you need something to keep up with your greyhound, why not get another greyhound?

You said lazy persons. What person? And there is nothing lazy about a Vizsla.

Vizsla is to real pointing dog as pen raised quail is to wild quail...

Simply the best dog breed ever. So much better than those psycho GSPs.

I don't think the vizsla will keep up, a GSP or a pointer will...

many reasons.
we love her, a lot. she's come a long long way. but she's huge, hard to travel with, difficult to train, and just will never have that man's best friend personality. it's who they are. not to mention it takes over a year to get one. we thought about it a while. but decided to get a vizsla, since that is the dog the girlfriend grew up with.

i don't mean to argue. but i don't think that's true.

We have one, Copper's Cooper.
He's the most neurotic, annoying creature I've ever been around. The only saving grace for me is that he 'velcro'ed himself to my wife and not me. He NEVER shuts up...always whining, always. Will just sit there and whine, or he'll come stand six inches from your face and whine. He's never more than a few inches away from my wife, follows her around like its his job. Wipes his slobbery mouth on her work clothes like that's part of his duties as well. Looks like pecker tracks on black pants.
He's crazy fast. I used take him on leashed bike rides...I've gone over the bars countless times because he's a fricking idiot. shite in the streets countless times after I'd stop at every field I could...he'd just walk around and smell in the field...giant crap right in the middle of the street, always at the worst time.
He's great with my son and always has been. Literally nothing you could do to make him bite anyone.
Good luck with it, I swear ill never own another dog after this one. Everyone said you need two of them so they aren't so needy...I tell them to frick off, that's a suckers bet. Everyone always comes up to us to talk about their Vizsla and let me tell you, the stories are hilarious. One couple we know had two and the male pulled the ceiling fan off of the ceiling during a thunderstorm. Felt bad for laughing, but it's so like them.
Maybe we're just bad dog parents...our last dog was a Blue Healer and maybe we were just spoiled.
