Would you have said the same 1 year ago? Take emotions out of it and simply answer the question.
That's hard to answer. A year ago I probably would have.
But, people wouldn't buy his act anymore.
I don't see this happening and I don't really want it to happen.

I think I agree with you on him being unhappy in T-town. The problem at Alabama is interference from the boosters. You know Saban usually plays golf about 3 times per season. He had recieved 50 offers to play and messages for more, for meet and greets.
He came back to college to coach not make money. The press is driving him nuts. He just doesn't look comfortable on interviews on TV.

I'm not sure Saban is capable of being happy...regardless of location. Maybe he'll do better after he retires

I could see him taking a $1 mil/yr pay cut and the buyout and coming back. If he has been as unhappy as it appears since he left LSU, and in Baton Rouge where his wife and daughter were very happy, he may now realize that money really doesn't buy happiness (although it does help). He's in his mid 50's now and probably realizes it's time to just be happy (that does happen with age). He hasn't had that feeling since he left here. The grass really wasn't greener in Miami or Alabama. I think he said in his press conference at the time of the LSU-Bama game something about loving LSU. As angry as everyone was when he left and then again when he took the Bama job, I think the majority of fans would really welcome him back. There will be a few who truly don't want him back here but I think that's the minority.

He's too much of a perfectionist. Perfectionists are generally only happy when....well....everything is perfect. I do think he loves coaching...I do think he loves the college game...his methods are more geared to that.

I thought this exact thing in the car driving home tonight. Talk radio was all about why the Bama team seemed to have so much dissention, and poor player response. I think that after seeing him hop from college to college and then have his "magic program" totally flop in the NFL, he's lost that mystical winning atmosphere.. he seems "exposed" now. I REALLY don't think taking him on would be a boost to the school or the program.

I think if everything were perfect, the perfectionist would be bored...if you look at this pic, it's obvious that he really wasn't glowing in the moment.

you have to respect the plan saban laid out here. other than that I don't really want him back.

He is a stoic guy and seems to try to surpress moments of happiness because he seems he always has to be in control freak mode.
He's got personality problems and I think he knows it. He has to live with all of that stuff.
But, think about who his offensive coordinator would be? He probably couldn't get Applewhite to come here with him.
It wouldn't work.

No doubt. I think he's one of the most talented coaches there is. Alot of people like to shoot holes in his record to discredit the job he did but the job he did and why I think he did a good one was more than just wins and losses. It was about revamping almost every aspect of our program and the image of our program.
Like Donnie Jones said, Saban did a "complete renovation" at LSU.

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Most of want nothing further to do with Saban except beating his arse on the football field.

And you've talked with most of us?

In retrospect, I think we actually got the most out of Saban we could. turning the program around, the facilities, and of course the MNC. But that stuff is still here, we still have the benefits of his tenure here. The only thing he could now contribute is his coaching, which the guy does NOT walk on water in that regard. I think he would be less effective in recruiting now because of how he is perceived. No, I think we actually got the best out of the deal and it wouldn't be a positive to get him back.

My thing is that for as long as I have been following football and recruiting, there has only been one coach here that you didn't even need to follow recruiting with. You could bank on the fact that great players were going to come in and vast majority were properly evaluated. Backlash hasn't stopped his recruiting at Bama a bit. The concern about "would people still buy it" is understandable but I would say if it didn't work out we could always move on but at that time we would have a truckload of talent again.
