The Houston Rockets didn't just swindle the Pelicans with the Asik trade.

First off, I have or never will like the Houston Rockets, but this just makes me sick when I think about the trade we made for Omer Asik.

LINK

The Rockets, who got a first round pick, similarly to what we gave them for Asik gave the Pistons Donatas Montiejunas who hasn't played at all since December because of a lingering back injury. As the pistons medical staff looked at Montiejunas closer they realized more issues were present and now the trade is completely jeopardized and will most likely not go through.

I know we traded for an injured holiday and were somewhat compensated when the NBA found out about it. I still feel great about the holiday trade as he is coming into his own and is clearly our 2nd best player.

I just feel the same away with the Asik trade now after this latest trade in which Houston tried to trade away damaged goods again. Asik's back was clearly injured before he came here and our medical staff failed to realize it and that was evident because of his play. The pistons caught it with Montiejunas before the trade was completely finalized so they were lucky, or were they?

When you look at this incident with the rockets/pistons trade and you compare the trade that we had with the rockets relating to Asik's back injury, what do you see?
Our medical staff not recognizing holidays injury could be a blessing in disgiuse, but I'm really feeling like the fricking rocket tards tricked the pelicans medical staff with the asik trade after he was somehow cleared. Pistons had an adequate staff, at least adequate enough to catch something like that.

I don't blame anyone for taking advantage of our crap medical staff.

D-mo trade to Pistons should go through. They agreed to the trade. If he could still play at a high level HOU wouldn't have traded him. If Detroit had a brain they would've seen that as a red flag and not made the deal. They didn't. Now they're stuck.

Kind of a weird time to bring this up with how well Asik has played as of late.

I agree but this news just came up today. Overall asik has been god awful and most of the excuses were bc of a bad back. With the way injuries had crippled the team before the acquisition of asik you would think the medical staff would do a little more digging.

He's done exactly what we acquired him to do since the day he came here, save for the opening stretch of this season.

We don't make the playoffs without great rim protection that Asik provided us last year.

He's paid too much, but you're probably right.

True. Unfortunately he was useless in the playoffs (not that it mattered).

A high level scout such as yourself should probably know this isn't the case.

That's true. But we also happened to match up with the best small ball team of all time.

He's just useless in many situations, even when healthy. Most lineups today are veering towards small ball. A majority of centers are able to step out and hit midrange or even 3 point jumpers, none of which asik can defend.

Yes, he's had a couple good games lately, nothing crazy like a 15 and 12, but yes he was close to a double double once or twice. That is fricking pathetic for how much were paying him. Not like
He's the backbone of our defense and taking a ton of contact and hits because he absolutely is not.

I'm glad Holiday is playing better. But, and I hope not the only one to get this, it's because Evans is out that Holiday is getting more shine. It happened last year, in reverse, where Evans was balling out after Holiday was out. That's just how it goes with the two of them..

I believe the argument would be that that is not what his value is or was intended to be as a rim protector and rebounder.

It's because Evans is a ball dominant guard with no jump shot and more confidence than anybody who plays professional basketball. He won't stop shooting. He won't stop holding the ball for half the shot clock possession. He is Tyreke Evans. Get used to it.

if you intend on playing AD at center in small ball, you need a guy like Asik for 20 minutes a game.

In February: 18.1 MPG, 4.7 PPG, 8.2 RPG, 0.2 APG; shooting 64.5% and 0.3 TOV a game

In January: 19.1 MPG, 4.9 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 0.4 APG; shooting 52.8% and 1.3 TOV a game.

11.6mil/yr (18th highest)

Other centers who got paid more this year:
Chandler: 13mil/yr; 5.8 PPG, 8.3 RPG
Hibbert: 14.6mil/yr; 6.5 PPG, 5.3 RPG
RoLo: 13.5mil/yr; 9.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG
Monroe: 17.1mil/yr; 16.6 PPG, 9.6 RPG
Thompson: 16.4mil/yr; 7.9 PPG, 9.5 RPG
Kanter: 17.5mil/yr; 11.9 PPG, 7.8 RPG
Jordan: 21.9mil/yr; 12.2 PPG, 14.2 RPG
Koufos: 8.2mil/yr; 6.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG

Now you can make an argument for Pachulia, Biyombo, or Hill. But Pachulia is putting up career numbers and I think all of us were okay with signing Biyombo.

Have to say, though, I have enjoyed those games where he's gone off and destroyed a defense by sheer will.

None of this is anything like the Jrue Holiday situation. And I have no idea why Asik is being brought up other than it happens to be the Rockets.
