Does it really matter with a 28 minimum?
It does.
I had a 3.85 GPA, but only got a 22.
I bet ones who say it doesn't matter are ones that didn't have a good GPA because they didn't try in high school.

This sounds like a back door way to close SUNO, southern, etc. there is no way they will be able to make enough money to stay alive.
Those schools are not receiving very much TOPs money as it is

How many kids scoring 28s have GPAs under 3.0's?

They collect a lot in first time TOPS money before the students drop out.

True, but as far as politics, you don't want to make TOPS vulnerable by having it exist as a primarily "LSU" scholarship.
That's why I think a staggered approach starting at 25 or so works best. Cover half tuition over 25. Cover full tuition over 28. Cover Tuition and books over 30. That way the lower tier schools like ULL or ULM still get a bit of this.

that's more like it. a 28 and a 3.0. the 3.0 should also have to be maintained in college to keep the financial aid.

It should be your college gpa that maintains tops for you. If you fall below 3.0 you're on probation for a semester and if you dont get it back to 3 you lose it

I just want people from my side of the ACT being heard.
I can't take tests like that. Only LEAP tests because I knew I was just part of data.
I can't best a national test that is supposed to get me into college or grad school. It is too hard.
But I excel in school everywhere else!

Standardized testing should be the major factor.
I'm fine with a GPA requirement, but it shouldn't trump or come close to trumping the test factor.
If you are a 4.0 student, but couldn't muster above a 25, then you're school sucks and you didn't put in the work to nail the test.
ACT is extremely coachable. Anyone who puts effort into doing well should score above a 25.

I thought this was the current policy?

I figured that any higher than 32 and you are probably going to a much better university than LSU and ULL

I think the real GPA that counts is the student's ability to maintain good grades in college.

It never was. TOPS was always a if you made an X or above on the ACT and have a X or above for a GPA, then you get this brand of TOPS.
And there were multiple levels. What this is doing is getting rid of all the levels except one and just looking at one metric to judge how good of a student the kid will be. Well what if that kid is a good student but can't do well on the ACT?
A student like me.
And then what's the point of the student doing well in high school when they can just dick around as long as they are ready for the test?

Exactly.
And that's where we've thrown most of the money away with TOPS. But, it has helped way more than those that abused it.

ACT doesn't mean shite. I scored a 23 then a 24. I'm in med school now.
