I've replied to you there. Not sure you ever realized it.

Sacalait are the spawn of Satan.
Find another fish to chase, unless you like catching nothing.

Some of the better sacalait afternoons of my life have been against boscoyos on Bedico Creek.

Get these parts to make your own beetle spins. Better than premade ones.
Not sure of size of spinner I have to check my tackle box. Use regular Unpainted jighead and panfish assassin body. That little tail give great action. One of my go to artificial for sacs

I've been skunked more times fishing those frickers than anything. I cannot figure those bastards out. I can't tell you how many trips I've been on with friends and caught NOTHING.
And I mean fish all day long, in beautiful water and conditions, and the frickers will not bite! I truly hate the frickers.
I know a guy who had a camp at Toledo Bend for years, who started trout fishing and sold his camp at Toledo and bought one at Big Lake. "I'm tired of spending the whole weekend there and maybe catching a few fish" is what he said.

If I did not have a circuit figured out, I would not catch any. I cannot go to a new place and get a single bite. For me, it's now through the spawn, then 2 and only 2 post spawn patterns that end the week after memorial day. Then, I will not catch a single one until the last week of September.

Unlike AlxTiger, although I'm learning from him, the spawn is my least productive time. April through August is my best fishing. Vertical jigging is best with hair or plastic jigs, and make sure you are feeling cover - submerged brush or wood.

Go to Lake D'arbonne in North Louisiana.
Buy a half a pound of shiners.
Learn how to tie a slip cork on a rod and reel.
Fish 20 foot deep on the edge of the channel.
Fillet fish and eat.
REPEAT.
I love Lake D'arbonne. It is the best lake in the Southern U.S. to fish for sacalait/crappie/white perch ..... whatever you want to call them they are all D E L I C I O U S!!!!!!!!!

more so than any other of the sunfish family - these probably behave more differently on different water and habitat than any other fish...
the ones in the marsh are completely different animal than those just 20 miles away.
know and learn your area..... and your quarry.....

If they don't hit that Garland lure give the Gulp Alive Minnow a shot. It produces when live minnows won't for me.

What water temps do you typically find the slabs start really getting active? Up here in OK, we are sitting in the low 40s and I'm wondering if it's even worth the effort right now to try new waters or if I should wait a month till the water hits 50s.
