Nope it's HS. I was there yesterday during the rain. Some of the shows are still kind of neat, but the park desperately needs an expansion and rebranding.
Also Epcot feels a bit gutted. Soarin is down, Maelstorm is gone, one of the innoventions buildings is half empty and there is empty space up by figment. Plus they need to add some new countries. I would like a Spain or Brazil area. They definitely have the space

Both Universal and HS have a Rock n' Roll coaster.

Hollywood Studios has "Rock 'n' Roller Coaster: Starring Aerosmith." Universal has "Hollywood Rip Ride RockIt."

What I want to know is how long Disney lets Universal keep the lease on the Marvel IP.
As long as Universal continues to follow the contract they signed with Marvel, they have use rights east of the MS in perpetuity, nothing Disney can do about it.

The biggest difference with avatar and Hollywood is that Disney already owns the IPs. They don't have to have a third party (James Camron) involved with creating/developing the rides. We had to clear out offices about 3 months before the announcement was made and the land surveys were already completed. With Avatar they announced the project to soon and that plans were even started. They had to build the show building move Lion King before the work could start. 2017 is an ambitious goal but it should come close to that time frame.

Sci Fi and what else?
50's Prime Time Cafe. It's great.

Hollywood will take shape in "phases" as well, right? Toy Story will be completed first. Then Star Wars. Star Wars is a huge undertaking comparatively. For one, it's bigger. But also they are having to almost completely rework the park. It's boundaries, it's entry, etc.

I've never understood the folks who don't like Hollywood Studios.
To me it's the 2nd best place in the Disney complex. Animal Kingdom is coming on strong though.
It's got some great stuff. Toy Story Mania, Rock-n-Roller Coaster, Indiana Jones show, Star Tours. A lot of people like Tower of Terror, but it hurts my back. Little Mermaid show, the animation tour...
It's small enough you can bounce around to the various things you're going to do. I miss Who wants to be a Millionaire and Catastrophe Canyon. But things change.

I wouldn't put 50's prime time in the top two in all of disney in terms of theming. Sci Fi is without a doubt one of the top. But Be Our Guest, Cinderella's Castle, Yak and Yeti... and maybe a few others at the hotels are better themed than 50s IMO.

Correct.. You will not see a completed Star Wars until 2020 at the earliest. That half of the park is getting bull dozed and rebuilt. They also have to file new wetlands permits(they are trying to move a wetlands area to the other side of the park) and get approval before work can start. Once SW is complete muppets will be getting updated to a 3D muppet Star Wars show and some of that area will also be used in the SW area.

quote:First and foremost is the layout. It makes absolutely no sense and it's not cohesive. There's a bottleneck when you walk in and then toward TOT and RRC because it's a dead end street. And it gets 100 times worse at night when Fantasmic gets going.

Once you head towards the back of the park, you can easily get "lost" trying to find muppets or Honey I Shrunk the Kids or Toy Story Mania.
Then there's the staleness of the shows. Indiana Jones has been the same exact thing since it opened. LMA has been the same thing since it opened. Muppets has been the same exact thing since it opened. Little Mermaid...These "shows" don't fill up anymore. Once you've seen it once, that's it. Same can be said for the walkthroughs which are even worse because some of them were just gimmicky: Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean. The real studio was cool. The special effects and backlot tour were cool, but those are long gone. There's an emptiness to the place back there. Streets of America is a waste of space except for 2 months out of the year when the put the lights up. And that's gone too.

I went on some banana boat ride at Epcot knowing nothing about it. Little did I know I was going to waste 40 minutes on an educational ride.

That was random.
The Land rocks.

I love the land ride at Epcot.
The first 2 things I would have torn down at Hollywood studios would have been the great movie ride and Indiana jones. I wish the stunt show was still there. My toddler would have loved it. With the new improvements it could go from the worst park to the best.

Get thee gone Philistine!!
The Great Movie Ride is a classic. I wouldn't mind seeing it freshened up a tad, but it's a must do part of Disney.

Looks like a bunch of folks in here that know DW well. My gf has never been and I want to take her sometime. Would this year be good, or will some of this new stuff be available by Summer 2017? She really wants to go to Universal for Harry Potter so we may just do that this year and DW next year.

It could be a thousand times better than it is with a nickels worth of effort. It's like a bad version of jungle cruise that takes itself too seriously. The Indiana jones show is sad and so bad it is disrespectful to the movies.
The great rides in that park, toy story, rrc and tot rival any ride in any of the parks.
