Here is why Fowler didn't let us know. Strong told him not to

In an approach that ran counterintuitive to everything people thought they knew about recruiting, this is what the Texas coach did over the past few months: He told players not to commit to the Longhorns. He kept wooing all of the top prospects, complimenting Erick Fowler’s mother on her pancakes .......

That tells me that the families and the kids are pretty shitty people to go along with something that disrespectful.

You really didn't properly label his sentiments from the article.

That's fine if he wants to operate like that, but long term he is screwing himself.

I called this yesterday, that totally reeked of something orchestrated by a guy desperate for some good PR for his program. It was obvious Fowler and his family were full of shite.

Strong will be out on his arse in a year anyway, so enjoy yesterday's big W guy.

It sucks the way it went down but that's recruiting the way the ncaa has it set up, it happens every year and will continue to be that way when that age kid is being pulled in that many different directions
I really can't fault a kid for staying in state with the home school in this case and it's not like LSU didn't have an inkling he was headed that way

Honestly, it's the kid's choice to go wherever he wants. I'm totally fine with that. What I have a problem with is shady behavior like this.

Committing to a school for a while, only to flip on NSD. It's just stupid. Go wherever you want. Don't be ridiculous is all.

I don't like it.

You are free to attend whatever school you like, but when you string other schools along like that, you are stopping them from recruiting other kids or offering kids who may want in.

Also, before anyone says that every schools do this, that is not necessarily true. A lot of schools are honest with kids and where they stand with them team in terms of recruiting.

its one thing to commit, its another to decommit once you know you are no longer committed. but all is fair in love and college football recruiting.

No one is faulting him for that

They are faulting him for being dishonest and not having the character to call the LSU coaching staff

Teaching those boys some good lessons.

Hope this all backfires.

thats fine for uncommitted kids

but for committed kids to not at least de-commit, it just doesn't sit right with me

I couldn't do it. I couldn't just lie to other coaches that were, by all accounts, good to me.

I realize its part of the game for the coaches, but for the kids to sign off on it? I wouldn't want my kid to do that.

It seems that the conduct was more sinister than the article suggests.
As I understand it, we got reassurance just before NSD he was still with us.
Is that correct?

He's going to have another shitty team because he is a shitty coach. This Gould be should be his final year as a head coach at any major program.
