That's why that program is in the tank.

He never asked kids to lie. He said don't commit to Texas until they know for sure. He never said commit to another school and completely lie about that commitment.

This is pretty low, even by recruiting standards, this is low. "You're coming to UT?! Oh that's great. No don't decommitt, just act like everything is cool and announce on signing day."

He did not know Fowler was going to commit on signing day....NO ONE DID, except Fowler himself...and he even SAID so.

What is missing here is that he was committed to LSU for almost a year yet he scheduled an announcement ceremony. Most people in that scenario scheduled signing ceremonies. There is more going on than what u want to believe. I also believe LSU knew more than they let on.

You can believe that, but you have no idea what went on, and neither does anyone else on this board. Accept it. If you are going to choose despite the lack of any proof that Fowler and Texas cheated LSU, that's fine. I find it sad that you choose to think negatively when there is the alternative (that Fowler is a kid, really didn't know what he wanted until NSD and committed to UT) that doesn't require painting others in a negative light.

Point being, Strong wasn't their first or second choice. We all now Saban was first.

That was part of the point. The other part was that Brown left a mess that was well hidden by some bullshite rankings from the friendly confines of recruiting services. Texas has no depth on the o/d lines, a smattering of skill players and no serviceable QB despite it's location in a state filled w/ QBs.

Brown's hubris drove Texas into a ditch and the only way out is by getting players. Fast. If the worst thing that happened this recruiting cycle is that Charlie Strong asked a few flipped players to keep quiet until NSD, I'd be fricking shocked.

Cheated?

I don't think people think he cheated LSU. He just didn't have the character to give the LSU staff and program the courtesy to let them know he was no longer committed.

I'm not sure when he made his mind up...but I'm 99.99% sure it wasn't on signing day. The kid kept it under wraps for a reason. Either Texas asked him to, or he wanted a big splash for his announcement. Either way, it's very worthy of criticism and speaks to his and his family's character.

I would say that UF fans should be mad at what FSU coach told Shavar Manuel to do. If you're unaware, Shavar flips to FSU on Signing Day

I honestly thought Strong was a better man than that. And I'd criticize LSU a lot worse than this guy if they pulled a scholarship last minute

To be fair and put his actions in perspective. LSU was ready to fire a coach who has been averaging 10 wins a season and has a national title to his name. Charlie Strong is at a job equally as prestigious with a losing record and is coaching for his job. I don't think LSU or any other school is on his mind. Schools are loyal to winning we've kind of created an atmosphere that puts coaches into these circumstances.

I'm failing to see how this puts it into perspective, or are you suggesting that the ends justify the means?

Letting the pressure of your job impact your character is the definition of lacking integrity.

One player will certainly not make or break this class. I don't agree with Strong's tactics, but he is desperate to win and that shows it. I just hope LSU kicks their arse in two years when these to classes meet up.

You are very naive if you think those guys did not have a plan for NSD that was conceived weeks, if not months, ahead of time.
