Yep. $3.2m, the remainder of his prorated signing bonus that Detroit already paid him.
I doubt that Detroit makes him pay any of his bonus back. He would just unretire, Detroit told him in December that he would have to take a pay cut to remain with the team. If he played next year, the Lions would have a $24 million cap hit.

He doesn't want a ring. He doesnt want to be goat. Taking his $ and going home.
Uncanny bio resemblance to James Harden.

Damn, one of my favorite WR's of the last few years. It was a pleasure seeing you play CJ. Best of luck to Matthew Stafford now

Bottom line, the more data that comes out about the negatives associated with CTE and head injuries, the more early retirements we will see from these guys.
I don't blame any of these dudes a bit for wanting to try to get out. I hate it for football, but I understand the players' thinking

If Tim Brown and Bob Hayes are HOFers, Megatron´s got no problems. He´ll get in.

Sucks he spent his whole career in detroit...wish he would have done more in the playoffs..only 2 playoff years in his career

pretty sure rice was putting up 1k seasons in seattle as a 40 year old
He started to slow down with the Niners then had very productive seasons in Oakland. Did nothing in Seattle.

Plus that 2002 jerry rice campaign included a super bowl appearance. And a pro bowl. His 18th season
Posted on 1/31/16 at 7:37 pm to jefforize
yeah people on page 1/2 were like "yeah he slowed down but 1200 yards!"
rice did that as a 40 year old
best NFL player of all time

If only we was in an offense that got him the ball in space. Calvin spent his career always catching high balls from Stafford over defenders.

After. 5 years he'd still be behind people named Rice
CJ is 11276 yards behind Rice, career-wise
that's 2255.20 yards per year over 5 years
I'm not a fool. Rice can not be disputed. But tbh Calvin would need anothe r 10 years to be on par with Jerry for career length.

what a dumpster fire of a franchise. you had stafford and megatron and only made the playoffs twice.
Posted on 1/31/16 at 10:27 pm to AU24
Detroit has seen one of the best running backs in NFL history leave their franchise years before they should have.
Now they've lost one of the best receivers in NFL history to early retirement as well.
That has got to sting

NFL careers will continue to get shorter... it's not worth it now to play until you're battered and broken...
and especially for guys who individually have nothing left to prove
He was Megatron.
and he made millions a year.
If he just put it in a pillow, he never has to work.
I believe I still remember his 40 run at Indy. 4.29.

Rice is the greatest WR
Taylor is greatest DL/ LB
You guys can debate the rest...
