Signing up for a year long trip to Mars.

quote:

But by far the most difficult challenge for Nasa's new recruits will be leaving behind their families. 'If I get tapped for the mission, I'll talk to my son about what I'll be doing. He's almost four now but will be a teen or in his twenties by then,' Mann told Glamour. 'His life will change while I'm gone. And that's a big sacrifice.'

i disagree. it is a selfish act, but not one that should be seen in a negative light. it isn't like she is leaving them for the man next door... she is leaving them for a historic mission on the first manned trip to a new planet.

It is almost like it is initials or something. I wonder if N.A.S.A. means anything?

After 100 days alone in space, #4 would be an OT 10.

Has that ever been said about a man in the space program? Dumb conclusion.

I'm sure the Columbia astronauts said the same to their families. There's nothing on Mars worth dying for.

Men are programmed to explore. Women are programmed to fight with other women over men and/or raise children.

is it?

the round trip would take up to 3 years. At one point this was planned as a one way mission because the radiation was going to kill them and there was no way to get them off the martian surface.

That ride would be hell if it was just 1 dude and 7 women. What's the space equivalent of jumping off a cliff?

So these women are going to be in their 50's when the mission takes place?

Why not select younger people?

That ride wouldn't be that bad except every 28 days or so.

Women should stay home and raise the next generation of great explorers. That is a noble undertaking.
