quote:Ok, and we just had a season with a sophomore QB. Arkansas' QB was Brandon Allen, a senior. Let's take a look at his progression as Arky QB
Hell I would take the Arkansas offense and mix it in with the studs at WR
Freshman- 21 of 49, 186 yds, 1 TD, 3 INT
Sophomore 128 of 258, 1552 yds, 13 TD 10 INT
Junior 190 of 339, 2285 yds, 20 TD, 5 INT
Senior 244 of 370, 3440 yds, 30 TD, 8 INT
Pro style offense, QB made big leaps each season, finished with very good numbers.
Let's now look at Harris
Freshman 35 of 45, 452 yds, 6 TD, 2 INT
Sophomore 149 of 277, 2165 yds, 13 TD, 6 INT
Junior ?
Senior ?
You'd take the Arkansas offense? Harris has better numbers than Allen at this point in his career: better completion %, more yds, more TDs, less INTs, more wins, more bowls. Same basic offensive scheme, and Harris thus far is more advanced. If he merely matches Allen from here on out, he will have a great career; if he continues to have better numbers at each stage (something he's physically capable of), we'll very likely win some hardware with him.
Show some patience and allow the team to grow.

Dan Enos had a lot to do with BA

It's very possible he can develop Harris. It's really a simple concept- read the defense, know where your players will be, sense the clock in your head to get the ball out in time.

Harris has Dupre and Dural returning.

Being old is not an excuse for being stupid. And yes, i am talking about you. People as you say are not wanting to run the Spread. We only want him to fun a more open offense. There is this new thing called the forward pass. I know, 3 things can happen and 2 or bad. Why do you act like the average fan is stupid? Or you too dumb to understand. Ever heard of misdirection? That is not a cute way of saying running a reverse. It is using motion to confuse the defense. Oh, you just thought that i want our guys to jump off sides. So much fail in your post.

Scoob.
very enlightening post. I didn't realize that Harris was ahead of Allen at the same stage. we get so much negativety on here that it sure pays to back off and be objective. I think i'm more excited about next year than ever. if BH continues to progress and our D is as good as I think they'll be we are gonna kick some butt next year.

Harris as a Sophomore is already on par with Mett as a Junior..

Well they're also Baylor and traditionally a terrible football program yet much better than LSU lately thanks to its offense.Same record except not SEC.

and dumb arse, it's not the "figuring out" thing, it's the teaching thing.
I know what you are saying. I have said and asked the same thing in previous threads in the past. The spread and adding spread elements to a offense are not his primary thing in the past. He's old school straight up 'pro style' with some 'air coryell' orientation. It's not that he doesn't know spread concepts, or that a lot of it isn't already in our playbook, it's just that it isn't second nature to him like it is to say a Lane Kiffen or Urban Meyer or Clemsons OC. So at times it may not run as smooth and seems disjointed and discombobulated at times. But that is going to change and it is going to come together as we do more of it and everyone (players and coaches) get deeper into it. He's going to become a better coach of it and the players are going to be better players at doing it.

Yes Harris exceeded Allen's Sophomore season and that was with one less game as well as the WRs having a large number of drops.

What will be interesting after the National Signing date is the following:
Which schools will LSU's Coaching staff visit to learn more about their spread offense?
I hope LSU's OC spend time teaching all the QBs on how to use their eyes to look off the linebackers and safeties before throwing the ball. Often our QBs tend to stare down their passing receivers on the field, and that works against each time.

like a gimmicky HUNH air raid spread? I'm sure he is not familiar with coaching it but no need to worry because we aren't going to it
Or something like Peyton ran the last few years he was healthy. Brady has done similar offenses too in the past.
4 WR sets, no huddle. Not necessarily hurry up, but you don't let the defense sub and you get your QB to the LoS early
There is a balance that can be had that lets you control pace, subs, and use playmakers without abandoning the system he knows how to coach.
The NFL has transitioned to it. More shotgun than under center and more no huddle than ever

West Coast offense? I can see all the posts on Sundays next fall from the video jockeys.
Yeah we lost by three touchdowns but we had 700 yards of offense so I'm happy.

The thing I worry about the spread offenses is that may be just a product of competition. Teams like Oregon and Texas Tech are known for high flying offenses, but they both got dominated by LSU within the last 5 years.
I think incorporating some elements into our Pro Style offense would be a benefit, but we don't need spread offense entirely.

That's right. The defense automatically stops playing just Bc the offense puts up yards. Makes sense.

Yeah I'm sure a high flying offense would kill our defense

You are so right. Let's keep running the Pro Style and pound the rock so we can continue doing what we did last year. Which was run the pro style, predictable by formation, play call with consistency week in and week out and when we play people we aren't more talented than we can lose by 3 TD's after putting up 300 yards offense but at least we can say, hey we were physical. Wait...... what?

Which is why they are the National Champions
LSU certainly hasn't won any National Championships with their bull$hit offense either.
At least Baylor has has been in the running.
In the BCS era there were 19 teams that ran a spread offense that played in the National Title game. In the 2 years of the new college football playoffs 3 of the 4 teams participating in the national title game were spread teams. Yeah ok, running a spread offense with all the freaks that LSU has certainly would not work for sure. It's a recipe for disaster.

yea, that would be nice. the scary thing to me is that we have struggled mightily getting the damn play in in time. also, in the past, we have telegraphed the play by the formation we have used. 4 wr's could do the same thing. we need to run out of passing formations at times and vice versa.
