I would think it's totally possible for cars to drive themselves in the next ten years. Would car insurance companies go the way of blockbuster? I know they sell home owners and life, but would think car insurance is what keeps them open

Are those cars also going to insure themselves?

Mandatory in LA, and I would think they'd be a lot higher for self driving cars.

Plus, do you really think everyone can afford those cars, and will they replace every other car in the road by then?

If a person isn't driving, then who can they say is at fault?

It would be less about who's at fault, but I would want me car insured for physical damage....It would be more like a homeowners policy...

Nobody is at fault when a tree falls on your house, but you're insurance "should" pay to get fix it

If the car is suppose to have all these safety features and has a wreck then is not faulty equipment? Even if it takes 20 years for these type of cars to dominate the roads.

on major interstates and some limited highways? agreed.

In residential neighborhoods and regular driving? No.

As soon as some shitbird 15 year old hacks into your car and sends it rampaging across the city, you'll be glad that you had insurance.

Maybe. The technology will be here within the next ten years but with the current infrastructure and price points, I think we are still way over 10 years from even limited use. Fulltime, self driving cars is still a few decades away, imo.

You'd have to prove it, first and foremost. Plus, as the owner of the car you could still be liable. I sure as heck would not give up my auto insurance Id have a self driving car.

For liability and for the damages to the car should it get wrecked.

ETA We don't even have flying cars yet like in BTTF, I doubt that self driving cars will outnumber person driven cars in 20 years.

Forget about the insurance companies wanting it. Google and pals will want it because if there's no insurance anymore, their asses are potentially on the hook for millions of fast moving, 2,000+ pound Transformers running around out there.

Probably. I wish insurance companies would die a painful death, though.
