I hope that wasn't his thought process. There is a not small chance that Miles is still here after next year and Malzahn is fired. That irony would hurt.
Frankly, I think that if one had to bet money, Steele left for the reasons you articulated earlier.

I think it's pretty clear. He'll probably say as much when he talks about it. Not the money part, but going home and being with his brother. Hard to pass that up, especially since he got to stay at a huge program in the sec.

Let's face it. In ANY job search for ANY kind of job, the type of candidates who are really interested is informative about he state of the team, company, or organization.
I don't ever read much into it personally, there are many factors to consider and we'll never be privy to most like personality fit, family situations, loyalty factors, etc. If Miles goes with another Steele type, it's likely because his top 5 or so didn't work out so he went the safe route. A top hire may take the job even though he knows there is a big risk that it may be a 1 year gig because he likes how the personnel looks and knows the job will only boost his resume, or a top hire may turn it down because his wife doesn't want to relocate the kids right now.

It's an interesting situation if you assume that the Les Miles instability is a factor. It could allow someone like Pelini, Chizik or others who were head coaches get a year in at a major program before trying to go after a HC spot or in order to springboard them back to that level.

I can see it now in recruiting
The LSU scoring defense ranked around ninth in the SEC last year, the DC was here one season, and we still have coach O.
What's the big fricking deal other than giving some of the clowns who post here something to bitch about?
As if they need a reason to trash their own team.

Yep. Now the Pumpers have their ready made heads I win, tails you lose silliness going.
If the defense stinks next year and we have another rough year......"Alleva's fault" or, at the least, "Miles can't help Steele leaving".
frickers like BeeFense will COMPLETELY FORGET they ever said losing Steele was a good thing.
You're forgetting one thing. "School officials" weren't willing to get in a bidding war for Steele. So Miles can't be at fault for the record. Not because it's an excuse for Miles, but because that's what was stated by "school officials". IMO, LSU's desire to look "poor" may further complicate things going forward and politics may end up being a significant hindrance to the football program in the near future.
Also, for the record, it is Les' fault that Cam has not been on the sidelines as well as every other coordinator which may have contributed to the lack of QB development.

No, this was as simple as Steele's performance not being worthy of spending one cent more than he was making.
You can't turn in the worst performance at your position that anyone has seen for a long time and go asking for a raise.

Or Cam's health? Like he had cancer and was receiving treatments? And he himself had said he played with the idea of being on the sidelines earlier but his health wouldnt allow?

Why would anyone in their right mind want to get into a bidding war for a DC here one season when that DC has the ninth ranked scoring defense in the SEC?

which may have contributed
We don't know if Cam being on the field had any impact whatsoever on the game last night or not, but lets blame Les anyway----that's your point.

No one is more happy about this than the Gumps. They'll be stomping Auburn for several more years with Steele running the Defense.
