I think there is no one reason or cause for success or failure (W's and L's). There are always multiple factors. But, the buck has to stop somewhere. Someone ultimately has to be held responsible. Opinions vary on who that someone is.
Of course there are many factors with a team's success or failure. The vast majority of those factors (but not all - injuries, for example) fall squarely within the responsibilities of the head coach. So the buck stops with the head coach. Just as it stops with the CEO of a company. That's why they get paid the massive salaries. They're in charge. They're ultimately responsible.

Look, I coached college basketball at the D1 level for 9 years, and I'm telling you, the guy isn't good
Okay then what specifically do you not like about what LSU is trying to do on offense and defense. I'm okay with you saying he isn't good but I want to know why.

Give Johnny this year and one more. If we are not an NCAA tournament team by March of 2017 , then Johnny will need to clean out his desk and be shown the door.
No more excuses ! and until LSU gets serious about basketball money wise , The PMAC is gonna remain empty. Pure and simple.

well, I don't coach basketball but can tell you because it's isn't hard to see.
On offense, we don't move enough and, when we do, it's too slow and lazy. We stand too still on the perimeter and too often end up jacking a contested 3-pointer.
On defense, a lot of that is effort, and we don't play with enough of it. But tactically, we give up too much dribble penetration and don't rotate over with weak-side help. Also, we don't switch to a zone when we're getting destroyed with penetration.

1. no semblance of any offensive scheme. everything is 1-1 and lots of standing around. very little screening or off ball movement (back cuts, slip screens etc.)No ball movement period
2. ZERO man-man defensive fundamentals. We cannot stop the dribble drive. we have no defensive rotation(hence the wideopen shots) no help side defense.
3. No rebounding fundamentals. No blocking out, no closing out on shooters. on free throws, guys get offensive rebounds and putback& realize the offense can only put 2 guys down there(3 if shooter is included vs 4 defensive guys.
This is 3 quick fundamental things that are contributing to this 4-4 start. These are things that should be emphasized at every practice, and enforced with repetitive drill work.
must of these fundamentals don't even require skill, just effort, intensity, and desire.
I'll hang up and listen

Well I haven't coached but I've played college ball...I can run it down for you....
Offense:
They Don't screen away from the ball...period. Their offense is the "weave" or "on ball screens" which are both very easy to defend. The motion offense with freelance screening away from the ball is the best way to get easy layups and it forces the defense to work for 30 seconds hence it wears them down.
They have ZERO secondary break...which is an easy way to get some movement and a few easy baskets during a game.
Zone offense: We stand around and flash the high post. This is so Dale Brown. The zone defense should be attacked by dribble penetration to make two people guard the dribbler...then either kick out, pass to the short corner, or screen in the zone for a three. And when the shot goes up hammer the glass because it's easier to get offensive rebounds against the zone.
Defense:
With the exception of gray (I hate to say it), Patterson, and Hornsby nobody plays defense with their feet. Everyone reaching in, trying to back tip once they're beat...etc.
When the defender is beat (and it does happen) NOBODY slides over to stop the ball...Hornsby tried on a couple of occasions last night and was called for the block...BUT AT LEAST HE GAVE AN EFFORT. I hate to say it but Simmons is HORRIBLE at helping out. Stepping in front of dribble penetration and taking charges is not only advantageous because it's a turnover it also deters future penetration by sending a message that there will be collisions when the the ball handler penetrates out of control.
When someone actually does rotate down and stop the dribble penetration NOBODY else rotates to the open shooter when it's kicked out....thus open 3 pointers.
Rebounding:
Do I even need to say it? WE DO NOT BLOCK OUT. It's the easiest thing to coach and for the life of me do not understand why the frick we can't coach it. Stick those skinny arse butt bones in the ball sack of another player and he'll think twice about hitting the offensive glass next time....plus we might actually get the rebound.

What horse are you backing in the replacement race? I've got mine all figured out, and there ain't no way a tiny Catholic school in western Ohio can match our dollars.
