It'll happen, with the proper coaching.

Two different quarterbacks.
Dupre and Dural aren't Beckham and Landry either.

thread is going to get anchored

massive difference is that Mett went from Stud as OC in year 1 to Cam in year two.
By contrast, Harris has been under Cam for nearly two full years. Any improvement from Harris will be only marginal.

Can we get a Jordan Jefferson 2 year comparison too?

And as good as Hill was, he isn't Fournette. And his backups weren't as good as Guice.

unless maybe Harris needs a new OC..
but that's not happening.

Sadly I think he regresses if he is in fact the starter (probable).
Looking at his poise and his terrible short throws and comparing that to someone like Grayson Lambert or even Jacob Coker for that matter, he doesn't look good at all let alone comfortable in the pocket.

Well of course not, but the discrepancy in wide receiver talent is going to have more of a direct influence to the QB position than the running game.
Even that aside, Harris is not going to be some breakout, potential NFL draft pick QB for LSU next year. He just isn't that good.
He needs to manage the game, hit the occassional intermediate route and make 3rd down and long throws when he has to.
Makes no damn sense to recruit all these "ATH" quarterbacks and try to force them to be Andrew Luck. Use Harris' feet in conjunction with Fournette and Guice.
The game should never be solely dependent on Harris' arm.

if you think Studrawa was coaching up qb's

He was implying that Stud wasn't coaching up QBs.
Harris is hot garbage.

Pretty sure Mett getting way more coaching his second year is his entire point.

You have to be coachable in order to take in that coaching. Harris is not applying the coaching to his game

I need to learn to read more better.
And, yes, Harris is hot garbage.

quote:Horrible comparison. The only relation is the 2nd year starter for LSU. Mett had a lot more college experience and was probably a better talent entering college. Mett was entering his 5th year of college iirc.

Mett was a pure pro style qb in a pro style offense. He could make the reads and throws. He also had one class and studied a lot of film. Part of being a good qb is knowing what each position is doing. From blocking scheme to pass routes. Mett was able to do this.
Harris is not a pure qb in that sense. You can't expect spread type qb's to develop into pro style quickly. I don't think Harris has mastered the concept of knowing his offensive line blocking schemes. He steps into sacks, or gives up on the pocket early. He seems to have problems with easy timing routes.
I think what we say at the A&M game is the reason for cam and Miles being conservative. Harris couldn't make the throws.
I like the pro style and hope they don't change. My issue is why recruit athletic qb's when you need someone that can get the ball to the play makers. If they went complete spread with Harris, I don't think he would last the whole season.

Mett also had two of the greatest LSU receivers ever

Serious question - do you think accuracy and/or touch can be taught? I can see coaches getting a QB comfortable in the system and learning how to read a defense pre-snap etc. but accuracy is hard to teach.

Touch can be taught because I've seent it. Either Rohan or Jamarcus, can't remember which, had the same problem with short passes as Harris when he first started. After Fisher got done with him, it was night and day better.
