Do you know how people become good at making decisions? You give them the opportunity to make mistakes.

Worth repeating.

Yet the many of the OT yearn for the days when young children could leave home in the morning and return home when the street lights went on.

I think it's pathetic some of yall think a kid can play outside without supervision. It's not like she lives in a neighborhood with a fenced in backyard. She lives in a apartment complex.

Holy shite...I was all over at 4/5. Taught myself to ride a bike down a hill at 4 in Tennessee before moving to BTR and flattening a big wheel tire in the appartment parking lot. Cant tell you how many hills I sledded without parents. Even learned on my own that digging in Louisiana ant piles was a bad idea. Came home without being stolen or run over and grew up in apartments near Broadmoor. Your kids arent as dumb as you think they are. Well, maybe yours are.

Childs name was Tomahawk
She wasn't watching him
Says at 4 he has proven himself ready to be on his own going in an out
She knows he wouldn't wander off because she told him make sure you come home before mommy gets
i was allowed to wander the neighborhood alone at only 5. That was th early 80s when crime was a lot worse than it is now.

You are joking, right?

Sheesh no wonder kids do nothing but sit around and play fricking video games all day. When I grew up...a kid playing outside meant *MORE* time for mom and dad (to do whatever it is they do). It was a win win. Now kids dont get to play outside unless a grown up can make time for it? Thats fricked. Its not the way its supposed to work.

Once when I was about 5 or 6 I upped and rode my hot wheels about two miles down the road to see my pa paw. No one got hurt, no one got arrestted, i wasnt taken from my folks. My pa paw was surprised to see me, he called my mom to pick me up and she told me that was too far. No one flipped out.

I wouldn't have been allowed to go to the park by myself at 4, but I sure as hell would wander off when nobody was looking. Neighbors would call my mom when I showed up in their house to play.

Somehow, the police were never involved.
