easy to work on for regular maintenance stuff (nothing big, like transmission issues, etc), and with parts readily available

CUCV ftw. Easiest vehicle you'll ever work on. My kid picked one up for $2300 a month ago and they're an absolute blast.

you want an 80 series land cruiser. Straight 6, easy to work on, built like a tank, extremely capable and classic look.

Have you told her you'll be sure to trade her in for a younger more reliable model when she gets old?

The GOAT of 90's trucks:

1998 Dodge Dakota

My brother-in-law still drives his 98 Dakota V8. He's taken incredible care of it. The thing looks just like it did back then.

I would look for a two door Z71 Tahoe, preferably 1992-1995 with throttle body fuel injection.

My #1 rule for buying a used 4WD vehicle: never buy one that was driven by a teen boy.

2006-2009 Trail Blazer SS.

I never advise putting kids in a vehicle without airbags, traction control and ABS.

Adults only, the early Toyotas or Tahoes discussed here earlier were good options.
