I'll be coming to town in the next few days to take a look at LSU and I was wondering where I can get a good shrimp po'boy. Feel free to name good spots from Slidell on over as I'll be driving in on I10 from the east.

Pastime Restaurant does a good job with po-boys and fried seafood.
You know, I'm trying to think of a place that makes crappy shrimp po-boys and I'm coming up blank. As long as you use the right bread and put the right stuff on it (mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, couple of dashes of hot sauce), it's pretty hard to screw up.

Baton Rouge:
The Chimes right by campus is the best overall stop near LSU. Everything there is solid, especially the gumbo.

The best shrimp po'boy, in my opinion, is Capital City Crawfish on Government Street behind Superior Grill.

Their po'boys are overpriced, small, and understuffed. The Pastime is really only great for nostalgia and calzones.

Downtown is bereft of great po'boys. Poor Boy Loyd's is slightly better than Pastime, but only marginally so.

Port Allen has better po'boys with Court Street Cafe and River Queen.

If you want an old place with a lot of tradition, go George's. Their po'boys are much better than anything downtown even if Smokey is a massive douche.

Agreed. It all starts with good bread. Also, they have boudin and boiled crabs in season right now, so it's also worth going to for that. Caution: their boiled stuff is hot as f&%k

I have to disagree with George's. For my money, Capital City Crawfish, then Randy Montalbano's.

It's a solid poboy for sure. Although the shrimp were a little overcooked on my last visit.

Tony's seafood also has a really good made to order poboy but I never see anyone recommend it on here.
