Is the offensive line a key position? I'm not sure I want those guys back.
Confidence and certainty of responsibility is key when you're not trying to compensate for a couple of first time starters.
The offensive line must play as a unit.

So will this not be the same thing when LSU likely replaced two OTs next season?

The media/analysts sure like to use "the eye test" for Bama but how about the "eye test" for LSU now instead of screaming about Les's record at LSU. Double Standard
Love Les but it's time for a change. We are behind too many other SEC teams!

The media can go screw. For years they used Miles as a source of quirky soundbites and portrayed him as a lovable idiot. Now that it appears he may be out, they want to run to his defense?

Somebody has to
I love Les Miles, but his refusal to try something different Offensively is why he is in this situation. I just don't think buying him out is a good move unless we get a slam-dunk hire.

There is a reason people will be gone for that. Could be success could be they suck. Miles stayed here for so long because it wasn't like schools were knocking his door down begging him to go anywhere. I highly doubt the Arkansas shite was even that serious more like his agent planting that out there to steal more money from LSU. He deserves what he gets. He had so many second chances he has nobody but to blame but himself. From 08 onward he had 1 great season and 1 season where the team actually looked like they were going to be dominant at the end and it carried over to 2011. How could anyone blame LSU with all the talent that went through here? The NFL numbers don't lie and the only other team comparable is basically a modern dynasty. Over 10 years with multiple OCs and it has been the same shite over and over. Inability to find a QB with the rare exception a couple years. 2 were handed to him already when he came.

Les has become something of a friend and I say that before I say this: I'll bet you money that whoever's next at LSU doesn't survive 11 years and doesn't go 110-32. I'll take the under on both of those for the limit.
if Miles somehow got 11 more years he wouldn't do this either.

This whole thing is funny...
Positigers- have nothing but negative comments about replacing CLM. Say no way the next coach will be as successful as CLM. I wonder how many were happy when a 28-21 coach was hired and why they are convinced the program will fall off w/O CLM. Be positive positigers.

You can't put the blame on Miles for Steele.Thats 100% on Alleva and/or Chavis. The timing of Chavis leaving screwed any chance Les had of getting a top notch DC.

I like Les and always have but I hope whoever replaces him retires after 15 seasons with 160 wins, undefeated in bowl games, repeated #1 recruiting classes and 3 NC wins just to spite you morons.

Then do your job as a head coach. He shouldn't need assistants to bail his arse out all the time. They have plenty of HCs across America who put their hands into their specialty and do a great job with it. What's Miles specialty? Eating grass on the sideline or fricking the offense up for at least 80% of his tenure here?
He never got respect from the media because anyone with eyes could see the sloppy prospects he put out on the field. It was talent being squandered on an undisciplined team year after year and he did just enough to keep going in the program.
If he's not responsible for these problems then WHAT THE HELL DOES HE DO FOR BEING ONE OF THE HIGHEST PAID COACHES IN NCAA? It doesn't matter how you slice it he's responsible for the problems in the program right now. He's the HC so he's either not very good at what he does or he's a figurehead who doesn't deserve to be paid what he is anyway. End of story.

I think the most telling thing about our program under Miles is to look at our SEC record since 2011
2011 8-0
2012 6-2
2013 5-3
2014 4-4
2014 4-3 (one game left)
That is a steady decline, we were supposed to be better this year, if we are 4-4 in the SEC unranked than I don't see how we can say that Miles is leading this program in the correct direction. Especially for a program who brings in top 10 class EVERY Year. Considering how we got blown out 3 straight weeks is very telling of where this program is going. I still have hope in next year, but it's not the same as I had earlier in the season. If we can find a way to keep this class in tact and bring in a better xs and os coach, we could win it all next year.

I like Scott Van Pelt, but his "friendship" with Miles is getting in the way of his objectivity. LSU is 13-10 in its last 23 SEC games and 8-9 in the last 17 SEC West games. Those two numbers are mediocre and part of a growing trend that has been highlighted with three beatdowns in the last three week.
It's time for Miles to go.

quote:So his last five years have been better than Saban's five at LSU.
*2 games left in current season
First 5 - 51-15 (.784)
Last 6 - 59-17 (.776)*
First 6 - 62-17 (.784)
Last 5 - 48-15 (.761)*
Since I don't know what you consider half, I split the wins and losses of the 6th season between the two here:
First 5.5 - 56.5-16 (.779)
Last 5.5 - 53.5-16 (.769)*
Holy frick our fan base is stupid.

So the man has an opinion. Big deal. So do all of us. Mine is not beating Bama is not the reason we want Les gone. Franks decommitted when LSU was still 7 and 0. He has been to every Florida game for the last month. This is before coaching changes came up. It is the style of offense that we run that has made that position so hard to recruit and keep commits.

Texas kept Mack Brown 3-4 years too long, and the program suffered. I say LSU needs to learn from Texas' mistake; stop the trend now. Don't wait until the recruits stop coming because of the perceived acceptance of mediocrity.

Hire a coach who ends up being the GOAT and wins 3 titles? But I'll be proven wrong??? Oh no!

If Miles is replaced and the replacement takes us to a CFP title they will praise LSU and how that was the smart thing to do. It is real easy to armchair quarteback after the play.

Its just not a well coached team. Period.
And this has been apparent for years.
LSU has coaching problems in all three phases of the game. It's quite irrational to expect the current regime to fix the problems in a year or two when the last several years have the regime trending downward.
However, there are very good emotional reasons to retain Coach Miles and honor his current contract. The arguments we see now to retain Miles are based largely on emotion and hopeful wishes.
