I'd say Golden State, Houston, LAC, SA, OKC and probably Memphis would all be considered major contenders in the East.

to the OP: NO. its not over. wait until the Goldies and Clips play the east.

Memphis seems to have got old, but I agree with the rest of the list above.
the word major in the clipped in bit means something to the OP.
It means, REALLY.

Sorry to break it to ya bro but HOU has nothing to prove to anybody in the regular season
Except your prediction of 60+ wins. I figured they would be fired up to prove you right.

Wrong, I know they'll be there in late May when the games matter if they win 60 games or not who cares even I get predictions wrong from time to time(albeit at a much lower rate than 95%ish of people out there).

The East is currently 21-17 vs. the West.

To add to this, this translates to a 0.553 winning percentage.

Last season, the East was 187-263 vs. the West. 0.415 winning percentage.

Memphis has not looked great, I agree, but I still think they would pose a bigger threat to the Cavs than just about every other team in the East.

not no but hell no, Cleveland has killed Memphis. Terrible matchup for the grizz

Wrong
What was wrong about my statement? That they had motivation to meet your lofty win prediction, or that you predicted (with a great deal of confidence) 60+ wins.

Hawks got their arse handed to them by Cleveland in the playoffs. What upgrades have they made?

Doc said GSW was lucky to avoid LAC and SAS in the playoffs last season who knows maybe they aren't so lucky this season and HOU gets a nice WCF matchup v a Spurs or Clips team.

So they don't care enough about their themsleves, their teammates, and their family to win as many games as possible so that they can have the best possible seeding for the playoffs?

Clearly there is no need to risk injury or fatigue, but you said they don't get excited for the regular season.

Since you knew they didn't get excited for the regular season, why did you so confidently predict 60+ wins? Did you forget they didn't get excited for the regular season, or are you just hedging?

Frankly it seems like you are already making excuses (or reasons, using the boom dictionary).

So a "nice" match-up for Houston is a superior team (SAS) and a comparable team (LAC)? I would hate to see a poor match up. I guess compared to GSW they're a nice match-up.
