re: Can we discuss the ridiculousness of 8 Mile?

Also, fun fact: Eminem wasn't even rapping when they were shooting the final battles. His voice was so fricked up from shooting that he was mimicking the lyrics and recorded them later (or before, can't remember).
But there were a couple times when extras wanted to go after him and battle, and he battled against them with little to no voice.
Don't remember where I saw that...I think it was in the extras on the DVD maybe.

I think people who cheer for the villains in movies are future serial killers. Who cares if the protagonist went over on time in his raps. He was jumped by like half a dozen of those dudes the night before. They should all die and burn in hell and that's exactly what rabbit did to them. You sir, need to get your life straight.

Down vote for even attempting to analyze this movie

My life is just fine. Aside from you sounding like a fricking blast at parties, I'm not cheering for the villain at all. Just pointing out that Em was basically cheating in the final rap battles.
If you took this thread as seriously as it seems like you did, then you're the one who needs a life check, dick.

Thoughts?
You sound like the least fun guy at a party.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, but Rabbits evolution was bigger than that last battle. Even if he technically loses, he not only overcame his ridiculous stage fright, but earned the respect of everyone in attendance. This was just the symbolization of the new beginning for B-Rabbit. He finally found his confidence and his niche.

Just read all of this, I like the movie but no way in hell he goes back to work after that shite!

I appreciate the work Cocomo has put into to showing that Danny LaRusso is the villain of the Karate Kid films and other related deconstructions of beloved films... but this one was weak sauce.
Back to the drawing board. And Em's imitation of the guys voice by spouting gibberish is the best part of any of his rap battles. Coco is wrong to call that a low point.

Your face is weak sauce.
I'll send you up the creek, hoss.
Get out my thread or I'll slap you in the cheek with peat moss.

I honestly don't see how you can say that with a straight face. It's easily the weak point of both battles. It's not only uncreative, but lazy.

So Papa Doc, after having respectfully allowed Rabbit to go first...is so flabergasted at the blatant lack of respect for the rules of the game that he chooses to make the bold, brave move to walk off the stage because he's better than that bullshite.
But see saying this, or even having this opinion, shows that you didn’t understand the “awesome-ness” of what had just transpired. First off he didn’t walk off the stage, he choked. He does the exact thing that his free world boys (and even him in the beginning of the movie rap battle) ridicule and diss Eminem for, choking. One of the reasons why they had no respect for Eminem at all was bc they thought b rabbit was fake, acting like he was good at rapping, but yet he always choked every time he tried battling before that last scene. That aspect and detail of the scene was essentially the point of the entire movie and highlighted the complete 360 of B rabbits rap “career”. Not only did he not choke this night, but he also was so good that he won the prior 2 rounds and was in the championship. He goes from choking and being boo’ed off stage, to making the current, undefeated Rap Battle Champ (Papa Doc) choke and get boo’ed off stage.
And the reason he choked was not because he thought Eminem “disrespected” the rules (as if it’s some formal event anyways) it’s because of what Eminem just got done rapping. Eminem took any and every angle away from papa doc and left him with literally NOTHING to rap about. He couldn’t diss Em for anything bc Em just acknowledged all of that and showed it doesn’t mean shite anymore. Ok so maybe papa doc won’t diss Em then, he will just rap and talk about street life and being a thug or whatever else is cool for a rapper… well papa doc couldn’t go that route either bc Eminem also just exposed the shite out of Papa Doc proving how his thug street life demeanor was nothing more than a facade, he wasn’t even from the hood, he went to a private school.
B rabbit, a white guy from the hood, proved to a crowd of all black people that he was more like them than any of the black rapper/s that literally just spent an entire night trying to diss him for being white and an outsider that wasn’t welcome. When in reality, papa doc and the entire free world crew were the real outsiders that didn’t belong. Hints why B rabbit starts his final rap off with
“Now everybody from the 313 (the hood they were in) throw your motherfrickin hands up and follow me…”
and you see the entire crowd with their hands up and Eminem and Future and cheddar Bob; pretty much everyone there except Papa Doc and the free world crew…. So he continues saying
“now while he (Papa Doc) stands tough, notice that this man (pointing at Papa Doc) DID NOT have his hands up”….
Bc papa doc didn’t/couldn’t rep 31third like everyone there. He was a part of Free World. It’s genius really.
This white guy, who the audience has only ever seen choke and embarrass himself, just explained with proof, and answered for every single diss and stereo type that’s ever been used against him. Still though these rappers just couldn’t help themselves from repeating the same shite ….
“Pay attention meat head, you’re saying the same shite that he said”….
But the crowd kept giving them credit bc even though it’s repetitive it never really gets old when ridiculing the outsider who doesn’t belong.
But it all changed in one verse when the crowd learned the truth. Papa doc was a “halfway crook” bc his reputation and career was based off of lies.
That’s why Papa Doc walked off stage, not bc he felt the rules weren’t followed. But bc without the played out easy diss lyrics available, he no longer had the rap skills or talent capable of forming his own original disses….

Also not sure how such an old thread popped up on Google when I typed “8 miles final rap scene” but I saw the tigerdroppings link and had to click, and I have to admit; I am not even the slightest bit embarrassed about entertaining such an old thread… a solid post and good topic for debate/conversation is timeless.
Lol, just in case you were wondering how the heck or why the heck I would comment on such an old thread. I swear I didn’t stalk your post history lmao…
