Decision for LSU administration and fan base boils down to one of two options:

Do you want a person who is a caring, honorable, decent man above all else, but only above average as a coach; or do you want an egomaniac, with no regard for the aspects of day to day living, whose only credo is win at all costs, no matter how many rogue coaches it takes to do so (Lane Kiffin and Lance Thompson come to mind).
While winning championships is ideal, after the Sid Ortis story, I'll take the damn fine man who truly values the importance of life. I can accept his deficiencies as a head coach. Alabama and their arrogant fan base deserve Saban.

Who do you have in mind?
Eta; didn't read your whole post. Miles is a great man

I was under the impression he was being paid 4mil to win championships, silly me

It is not mutually exclusive.

I just want the offense to be better at doing offense things, ya know.

I was going to reply to this, but I know it would be a waste of time I'll just sit here and laugh instead.

No one can ever say Les isn't a great human being. Problem is he's not being paid to be a great human being. He's being paid to win football games. It's that simple really.

Sobwhybdid this "great" person hold us hostage for more money using ducking Arkansas as his threat?
But he did and in return, our expectations were raised as well!
Hell, Dinardo (i think), mad all players attend mass. He was a good man, but we canned him.
Big time jobs come with big time expectations.
These continued failures against Bama is the issue. If you lose to your division rival, constantly, and show no desire to evolve your plan, that is very very alarming and a bad sign, imo

If this is ALL that matters then why all the bitching and complaining about the results from Saturday night??
If Alabama deserves Saban then they also deserves all the championships they are winning as well.

What does this mean? That Saban is so cold-hearted he wouldn't have given a dying child who was a Bama fan the time of day? If so, I reject your premise. In fact, it's hard for me to imagine any coach in America not doing the same thing. Not saying Les isn't a helluva guy, but let's not lionize him over this.

I'm good with what we have. Miles is a great man away from the game, I don't think anyone can contest that. What seems to be lost is that while he is not the best (Saban is), he's absolutely the equal to anyone else in CFB. He has this team in position for a 10 win season, with 11 games on the schedule (we should be favored to win out). In other words, in the 10 years that Miles has been here, he has been able to win a BCS title, multiple SEC West and SEC titles, and his down-points have been 8 win seasons. He's thus far been able to rebuild the team following those seasons into 10+ game winners, and he's on the way to doing so again.
The first 8 game pit was 2008, with Lee and Jefferson being freshmen. We hated the QB situation with that group, but he took those guys and by the time they were seniors he made them into an undefeated SEC champ. The next 8 game pit was 2014, with Harris and Fournette being freshman. They are now sophs, and could win 10 this season. We have 1-2 years of at least 1 (Fournette may be interesting if he absolutely wants a title).
The ONLY thing people can whine about is the lack of a national title in that stretch. Everything else, objectively, is great.

Who other than Saban has more wins than Miles since his tenure at LSU?
Head Coaching Changes since Miles' Tenure:
Arkansas: 4. Bert sits at 5-4 and unranked.
Auburn: 3. Offensive genius Malzahn is 5-4 and unranked.
Texas A&M: 3. Offensive genius Sumlin is 6-3 and unranked.
Ole Miss: 3. Offensive genius Freeze is 7-3 and unranked.
Who cares about Miss State.

I think this is a WILD exaggeration of Saban. I dont know if LSU fans think this to make themselves feel better...but Saban is not a horrible mean nasty person like everyone seems to want to believe. Miles and Saban likely both have a-hole traits.
Its stupid that LSU fans need to stoop to this level just to grasp for something.

He's lost one game this season to what is obviously a lot better talented team. Check out the number of seniors & jrs, most who will declare for the draft, on that roster. He is not anywhere near the hot seat. Good Lord.

neither the administration nor the fan base has decision making authority on firing a coach.
the ultimate decision makers are the big donors and ex players.
also, as long as the coffers are refilled every year and the majority of games are won there IS NO REAL REASON TO FIRE THE HC.
that's right, while the goal of the football team is winning the NC it is not the top goal for these decision makers. want yes; need, no.

If this is all you want from a coach that would be acceptable for 200k a year. No business would pay a CEO 4 million/yr to be an all around good guy.

You are a beta.
This isn't the untied way or Red Cross.
I'm happy Les miles has a heart, good for him. frick I dont think that expecting too much.
For some of you to be complacent and Ok with being second place and Alabamas little brother is embarrassing.
To justify it by mentioning a poor kid that passed away from an illness is even worse.
You should be ashamed.
GDIAF, or better yet go to Nola and become a Tulane fan.
Loser.

Good point. Just don't try to sell LSU football as competing for championships, because we don't.
